Need Artist - In-Kind Payment, June 30 deadline, 7 pages

I need an artist willing to draw a 7 page script (of which 1 page will be a title/splash script). Genre is contemporary/modern, focused on social issues and race. This is for an anthology to be published later this year by a comics collective of which I'm a member. The art will have to be approved b...

Copperhead is a sci-fi western that's pretty good and doing reasonably well. Besides, Firefly.

A post apocalyptic comic with a western feel might work.

Character development that goes in all directions (i.e., none of Didio's "superheroes can't be happy" crap). Powers that aren't just tagged on to the characters, but become an integral part of who they are. Greater diversity properly written into the theme. Superheroes are ideals AND real people. Th...

A really good superhero series, to be honest. I'm not happy with anything being done by the big 2 right now. Marvel is still tolerable, DC...I'm getting my DC fix from the shows.

I like one...slightly over two. Not so sure about three. None of them are terrible, though.

Also, I would be interested in working on this, but I wouldn't be able to start until next month, most likely (I have family travel and am kind of booked up). Let me know if you're interested in discussing it.

And even if your artist does direct digital art, they do have to have a tablet and proper graphics software (I'm not sure what most comics artists use, but most decent graphics packages are $200 plus). On the word processor front, I recommend not using a word processor. I recommend writers use CeltX...

Also, a lot of digital artists now do both the penciling and inking stages. But lettering is definitely a different skill.

One solid tip I would give to writers is: You need a portfolio too! We talk a lot about artists having portfolios. Writers need them as well. Write a few short, complete scripts and put them on the internet. You can use DeviantArt (I do), but bear in mind that the upload process can be a little bit ...

I'll do $10 a page, so you know that's not considered a bad rate - this isn't a project I'd be interested in (I'm not a comedy writer) - but I'm almost always hungry and looking for work.

A true collaboration is not the same thing as working for somebody else to free - but I'd want an action plan with that person for how we were going to work towards making money, be it submitting to companies, doing a web comic, whatever. And talents absolutely have to mesh well. I'm not going to wo...

I am defensive because I am tired of the entire "cult" as I think of it of it being okay to work for free "for the sake of art." That's all I'm going to say. I'd love to find a good collaborator, but I'm not going to do work that doesn't have an overall plan behind it to get PAID work. Portfolio wor...

Bluntly, I'm not going to let anyone work for me for free unless they are *really* committed to the script and willing to work for submission. It would have to be a true collaboration. First of all I discourage, as a matter of principle, ANYONE from working for somebody else for free. Exposure is wh...

I hadn't thought of posting my script samples to DA. There's a couple I wouldn't post on the internet because I'm hoping to develop them and don't want them out there, but my portfolio samples, I might do that with - I have an account and occasionally put up photos. And yes, if I was looking for an ...

Emerald Star Comics

Emerald Star is doing a big "Coming Soon" thing today on their Facebook page. Especially if you like sci-fi comics - they have space marines, space pirates, and Invasion! - a sci-fi anthology comic. Real old school stuff. Invasion! is going to include my short four parter "Maximus Orbital." Rocket s...

Artist sought for book cover

This isn't strictly a comic job, but I know quite a few talented artists hang out here and might need a bit of extra work. Occult Moon is looking for an artist to design the cover of a new RPG supplement. This is a kickstarter funded job (However, we won't require the work be done until the money is...

Established characters for your portfolio are fine. Pitching storylines with established characters should only be done if the company specifically requests it. If you're looking for a writer to do a co-application with, ask here and you'll probably find somebody. NO good writer will steal your idea...

And go ahead and ask your questions too - don't be shy. The one thing I will say at this point is that for artists (and to a lesser extent for writers) you need a portfolio. It needs to be readily available. A lot of artists use DeviantArt - the free accounts are quite sufficient - but in the long t...
