A site that could benefit from Tarquin

Just saw this on Wired.com and thought, wow, here's something that Tarquin would be ideal for. It's an "interactive" Star Wars time line (not very interactve at all if you ask me) that uses a horribly clunky interface for zooming/scrolling. It shows just how elegant Merlin's system is - http://www.w...

Tarquin Engine Release Status?

Hi everyone, I have been busy with other things and out of the web comics loop for many months so please forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forum...I was wondering if there has been any word on a public release of the Tarquin engine? I noticed a post from February in another thre...

3DS Max Artist Wanted

This isn't comics per se, but I hope you'll indulge me for a moment... For the past six months I've been putting together a film for the Star Wars/Atomfilms Contest (see this thread on the PuppetVision Forum for more info) and I had someone lined up to do a simple 10 second shot of the Rancor from R...

Hardcover "Understanding Comics" Price Break

This is (probably) only useful for the few of us on the board from Toronto, Canada but the Beguiling is having a secret sale. They have Understanding Comics in hardcover for just $25 which is even cheaper than the paperback edition. Sadly, I think this discount applies to in-store purchases only. Th...

Interestingly, Jim Zubkavich was commenting on his blog recently that The Makeshift Miracle still gets a decent amount of traffic (and presumably Bitpass revenue) despite the fact that's rarely been updated since he finished it and he has done almost nothing to promote it. Worth noting though that h...

For those interested copyright and copyright myths, Jim Zubkavich (of Makeshift Miracle fame) has a short but very good list of sites at http://makeshiftmiracle.com/Links.html (scroll down to the "Web Comic Marketing" section). Oh, and I'd be willing to volunteer to do the layout for the book since ...

I'd be willing to beta test all of the above, or at least as many components that you feel are ready for that. I can also post the results on a private secure page for you to check out if you like.

I use Acrobat Pro a lot at work and I've often thought of this. While I don't think it's as handy as the Tarquin engine, it would definately be user friendly.

I say go for it...as soon as you finish that Tarquin-like script.

I'm currently using the 0.9.2 build of Firefox which I believe is the latest. I'll try to reload the page tonight and use the JS console to find out what the exact error was. *EDIT* After posting this I checked and sure enough there's a 1.0 Preview release available. Installed that and it seems to w...

I should have caught this earlier, but is the script compatible with Mozilla browsers? I just noticed that it doesn't seem to work in the latest version of Firefox (works fine in IE and Opera though). What about Safari?

Very cool. It worked perfectly, the problem was the javascript didn't save as a .js file when I copied it to my harddrive. Personally, I don't see why there should be a problem releasing this without Merlin's approval. I think it's very courteous of you to do so, but really all you've done here is d...

OK, I want to try this out tonight and simply linking to the script didn't work. Forgive my ignorance, but is there no code that has to go in to the HTML document? No parameters to change?

Obviously I am doing something wrong so could you give an example of how you've set up the code for this?

Problem is that screen/mouse coordinates and scrolling coordinates are a huge mess of incompatibilities across browsers and versions. I think evry artist who tried to follow that path quickly fled from javascript hell to the nicer structured Flash word. I agree. The beauty of Flash is it's simplici...

That would be OK with me, but I'm still waiting for Merlin to tell me how I can give credit to him before releasing the script. If you want to test it and give feedback, and are OK not to use it online as long as Merlin doesn't respond, I can mail you the script. (3KB) That's OK because what I'm wo...

Since Scott mentioned the Cartoon Museum Benefit at Pixar a few weeks ago I thought I would share this with everyone...PC World editor-in-chief Harry McCracken has a report about the event that includes some interesting observations about Pixar's creative process here.

Star Wars Web comics

In the surest sign yet that web comics are going mainstream, StarWars.com is launching a new series of "web strips" as part of their Hyperspace service on Monday. Although some of them aren't technically web comics, they're just reprints of the old newspaper strips from the late 70s/early 80s. I don...
