OK, I won't bother him yet with vaporware. I'll try to have a demo of a fractal spiral today and depending of how it distorts the image, I'll contact him or not.
[EDIT]
Here's a superb screenshot (88 KB)
(OK Image took 30 mn to generate, still needs some work and image quality reduction)

If you really want to see the pngs when having their adress in the status bar, you can install the quicktime plugin that also deals with them. Problem is that when bigger than browther's window, they get scaled down to adjust the screen (witch is nice) but you can't return to 100% zoom. :( And also ...

Diagonal linear stair comics can be delt with javascript : simply scan the current horizontal and vertical offset in an endless loop (technically speaking, it should be a single path program that scedules it's rerun for the next fraction of second at it's end), if they H offset changed from last sca...

As long as it's Horizontal scrolling only or vertical only, I like to switch back to Internet Explorer : You just have to middle click once on the page and then smoothly scroll by moving the mouse. One of the few points where IE is superior to other browsers IMO.

Spelling checker

I tend to make quite a lot of typos and errors when writing in English.
I'd like to know if it could be possible to add a spelling checker to the forum.

Some IE browsers have the strange bug that they know how to handle most of the png features (except greyscale and partial transparency) but don't know that they do and react to direct png download as if it where a binary stream (even if correct mime type is sent). But when the same png is linked fro...

This is frustrating : I put an effort in using only the oldest objects to be compatible with the oldest java Virtual Machines. What I overlooked is that while the Image object exists since the very beginning of Java, it's support for the png format is a recent addition. What I'll have to add in the ...

OK, XML it will be. As for V2.0 spiral, I'm not even sure a spiral with all the properties of our dreams exists. Spirals with each turn being a zoom of the previous turn can be made, but they also have a fixed centre. Fractal spirals also exists, but I'm afraid they will impose too much distortions ...

I'm thinking about a way to specify everything previously discussed : the program could have as parameter only the adress of an XML file describing the strip in a simplified HTML style. What do you think of it ?

I understand that all of the images will have to be the same height, but will they have to be the same width too? No, different width images are supported from the start : so far, each image is considered a pannel and a stop point is added in the spiral at each middle of each image, whatever the pa...

stable/functioning at this point with the resolution and image quality you see in the screenshot, I get one frame every 2 seconds on my 3 years old computer. I think I still can get 30% speed with mor optimization without reducing image quality any more. I'm glad you find the current rendering acce...

Vector data seemed nice at first because it can easely and losslessly be zoomed and rotated. The problem is that you can't express the transformation of a rectangle to a spiral as a combination of classic transformation matrix. So you have to generate a polygon for each pixel and apply rotation an z...

Decent speed has been achieved by completely removing anti-aliassing computations (the result is UGLY but it's probably sufficient as rendering method when rotating. I still need to optimize the original pixel color function) Currently trying different interface ideas like this mini map http://happy...

Possibly, the CYOA feel could be achieved if the comic was drawn from a first person point of view, as the equivalent of the literary version's second person. I don't know. It was succesfully achieved in two numbers of "le journal de Mickey" something like ten years ago. You had inventory to choose...

Rather than a typical branching story, this Morning Improv reminds me more of a time travel story in which someone keeps going back and changing the past and therefore the present and future as well, except the changes in the "Mimi timeline" propagate backwards in time. This is OK as long as you ca...

How does one read/navigate it? In the example, we are at the center of the spiral and the story is read clockwise and from inside to ouside (the opposite (clockwise from outside to inside) is also possible). To go to next pannel, you just press the right arrow key, and the center of the viewed area...

Spiral comic engine

Hi all, I'm currently developping a java engine to view a serie of images with the same height (but not necessarily the same width) as a spiral. The applet will be easy to use : just specify image urls, window size, rotating direction and zoom level. the interface is just a left/right key to go to n...
