Re: A good freeware 3D modelling tool

I just found out about what could be a useful freebie for comic artists, at least for learners like me: SketchUp 3D modelling program Woo hoo! Another demo program from a company Google bought out with their IPO loot!! <pause to download> Why can't those dumb f--ks write a program that fits inside ...

"A cartoon depicting a person engaged in a sex act with a giant hamster..." does not belong in a public library, blah blah blah. Either they are hypocrits, or they will immediately crack down on the various paintings of Leda and the Swan in their fine art books, too. Oh - I forgot! Leda and the Swan...

Please kill me if I ever get like this

Today's http://www.sluggy.com/ has this "Oceans Unmoving In closing". I don't know where the blog entry will go after today, so I will quote: I want to do is apologize to those disappointed with the story, and who have felt tormented by it for so long... I’m reminded of the Punyverse story where alm...

James Roberts did a nice Dylan Moran homage in a couple weeks of Albion Fuzz . A "nod" is different. Here's a nod to Griffith: <img src="http://www.greencheese.org/NodToGriffith1.png"/> <img src="http://www.greencheese.org/NodToGriffith2.png"/> <img src="http://www.greencheese.org/NodToGriffith3.pn...

David Bowie Comic

You ain't seen nothin' yet: <img src="http://www.beyondbelief72.com/comics/761011-12_iwa.jpg"/> That is "inside Woody Allen", a lame fanfic that ran from the 1970s to 84, syndicated in newspapers. It doesn't have mind-controlling aliens from utter space, or the high kicks and tights, yet it is still...

ideographs of emotions

The notion was raised, in another thread, that some audiences have been trained to predictably respond to symbols of emotions in preference to representations of emotions. Here's an example of the culprit in action: <img src="http://flea.sourceforge.net/innerTubeChick.png" width="700" height="500" /...

Nobody ever said that. Someone decided I said that, so they could promote their blog entries.

Ok, after re-re-reading your rather confusing analogy... Why is it confusing? The only dodge is I guess fewer people would feel so defensive about Barney (-: And note that Barney and Sesame Street are the same genre; felt critters with big googley eyes and voice actors backing them up. Yet, thanks ...

Actually, I'm exactly saying that people in one population work under different guiding principles than another (this is what I assume you mean by "rules"). By "population" we can agree to say "school of thought". Are you implying that you don't think people can get jobs because they don't draw lik...

Here's a quickie critique. I had an art instructor once who drew a stack of boxes, so they were symetrical. Then he told us that if he told us they were a human figure, we would not believe him. Then he drew the boxes again, each out of balance to each other. Almost like they would have fallen. The ...

But if they lack skills, then it doesnt matter what approach they take to the visual aspect of comics. Pointy chins or flapping jaws wont matter I disregard the implication that emergent artists in one population have rules different from in another. (You might have noticed we are all implying it.)...

Now, if your argument was, "Hey, American kids! Stop trying to copy a visual style you dont really understand and lack the skills to improve upon." then I'd be behind you. Okay. That's my point. Hey wait a minute it isn't! How about "stop copying styles to fit in!" Not just directed at American kid...

Oookay, everyone is hung up on someone who said "make everything look exactly like it does in real life". T'weren't me. Make eyes look like pizzas if you want. None of us here are "new realists". I will admit to spending too much time at the cheap end. You, however, are hung up on the eyes. The one thing a marketeer wants is a unified and predictable market, so you always know exactly what to give them. Violating that prediction, in the world of St. Peter Gabriel, is what Shocks the Monkey t...

I am aware that humans form symbols to communicate. Could an artist with a different style get a job in the mainstream Japanese system? (About my site, only Turnbil, Priz, and Dierdre are human. Things every Manga/Anima worker needs to know

All the hardcore fans might be too far gone, but I myself would like Manga a little more if its writers and authors let go of their endlessly derivative mindset. I know I know "you and whose army". But here goes anyway. Eyes don't look like that. And setting them so far apart, to make a character lo...

turn the camp down to make the contrast effective

Sorry you didn't like my comic Phlip. Oo my this commits me to an honest critique. Work that is On-On-On all the time wears out the reader. We have all seen drawings where every gesture is pinched and stretched, every dialog is camp, every color is bright, every posture is arched. Things should be ...

Please supply a script sample.

(For another thread, I have not yet mastered the trick of starting a plot with no ending in mind, and then layering it with gags and stunts forever, like some strips I could mention).

Yet please note my ZL reads "as if" it were such a mash-up. It is totally not!
