Varies quite a bit. Most of the time, with the comics that actually make it to a properly finished stage, I just make it up as I go along. I often find if I plan too much of a story out on paper before I start, then I loose interest in the idea before I've had a chance to finish it. That said, I'll ...

Big story ideas are fun to come up with but, yeah, often too impractical to actually think of following up on. Especially when it comes to working out how I'm going to go about illustrating my ideas. Most of my stories that actually make it to the screen usually stem from something like "Hmm... I've...

The return of The Ninja With No Arms

He's back: http://e-merl.com/dis.htm

Because he was everyone's favourite from Doodleflak and because it gave me a chance to try out an idea on dismembered story trails that I've been meaning to do something with for ages.

Comments welcomed.

Wait a minute, you mean Man Eating Shoes wasn't a true story?

Heh.

It's odd, but to me When Luna Smiles had a kind of non-fiction vibe. It felt like a poetic acount of something that had really happend. Does that make sense?

McCloud TV!

Noticed a bunch of hits coming into e-merl from this page:

http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/supe ... 28,00.html

I'm not in the US, so no chance of me being able to catch the repeat, but I figured others might appreciate the heads-up. And thanks for the plug, Scott!

I've responded to this thread over on the comiccon board in quite a bit of detail, but I just wanted to pick up on one point here: For example, Doodleflak suffers from both making you do the 'hunt for the control surfaces' as well as performing unnecessary extra rotation returning things to the "sta...

Doodleflak - first zooming hypercomic?

FEAR! The roving gangs of urban leeches. RECOIL! At the might of an amputee ninja. WITNESS! The polite wrath of Jesus Christ. WONDER! What the hell is going on? The answer is Doodleflak: http://e-merl.com/flak.htm Now, is this the first zooming webcomic? I asked this the other day over in the Art f...

Zoo, zoom, zoom.

Are there any zooming comics out there already? I know Scott originally proposed the idea a while ago, but I don't remember having seen any finished examples from anyone yet. My own attempt at a zoomer, Doodleflak, is almost done. It started out as a follow on to Sixgun, but has become something alt...

Thinking stuff up is the fun bit and coding is something I can do with a bit of music in the background without really having to pay too much attention to what I'm doing. Making the artwork, however, seems to take forever....

Glad you all enjoyed it. A special thank you to Jack, since I'm pretty sure I had House of Stairs somewhere in mind when I was planning this one. > So, 7 Guys of Justice #14? Yeah, I've had trouble getting hold of this series on a regular basis too. It's still going strong though and still, in theor...

I love inovation, but opening new windows all over the place tends to annoy people -revolutionary content is all well and good, but if your site design turns people off from repeated visits then no one is ever going to see it. Some of Scott's criticisms seem valid to me - you might try listening to ...

Don't think I've ever seen this in a hypercomic, but I know I've seen it in a hyperfiction somewhere. Really bugging me that I can't remember where or provide a link. Basically the thing had the look of a child's story book, except the image changed depending on the time of day and the local weather...

Maybe this belongs in the Zwol forum, but it feels reinventy to me, so here it is instead: I know it was a single panel, but today's Zwol strip read like a comic to me. It was the break between the two speech panels that did it. It felt like Kate was saying "This?" and pausing to look at the reader ...

Bit of a change of pace, this one - and possibley one of my own favourite chapters.
