Actually, I suspect that the reduction in creators on the MT site may actually be a conscious decision. Bear in mind the pay structure for the creators -- each creator is payed a percentage of the profit proportional to the percentage of impressions resulting from their comic. I suspect that MT is g...

I actually work for Unbound Comics. I'm just a submissions editor, and don't have access to the financial information, but my understanding is that the company is doing reasonably well. Especially considering that there's been very little promotion so far. There's a bunch of new change planned for t...

So while the character does not develop in such a way that they become more human to us, the character does develop in terms of representing an idea or set of ideas, or feelings.... So maybe it is possible to have a character that is flat in terms of traditional characterization, but alive and func...

Re: the "one shot" story comic vs. ongoing story l

Here is a funny thought: t.v. and comics are the only mass media that have ongoing story environments. Ok, some games do, but usually you can jump right in anyhow. Anyhow, t.v. and comics are the only media that push viewers away with complex background plots.... and t.v. is a lot more accesible to...

Re: the "one shot" story comic vs. ongoing story l

In fact, I stopped buying Marvel during "Maxium Carnage", just one more of those crossover storylines that suck really bad and draw the money from poor teenage boy's wallets. I stopped reading Spiderman as a result of the very same crossover series. Possibly the worst comics experience I've ever ha...

but whenever he e-mails me to tell me that there is an update, I immediately go check it out. I think that's the key right there -- he sends out an e-mail update. The main reason that frequent comics get more hits than good comics is simply because people don't check a site regularly if they don't ...

Personally I'd like it if I had an editor telling me that "this needs to be changed" or "that needs to go". How does everyone else feel about that? Do you think your work would be better if there was someone who you had to "turn it over to"? This is precisely why I don't self-publish anything I wri...

I then decided instead of a punchline and being crude, I would write a fake editor's note cencoring the punchline. Although now, I still feel guilty because now the punchline is "fill in the blank" and left in the minds of people more dirtier than I and it much worse. There's nothing wrong with thi...

Having yet to run an actual strip, I can't speak to this from the point of view you're asking it from. However, I have gotten the impression that, in general, readers would rather find something, even if it's not your best work, rather than a frustrating "check back tomorrow." I know I feel this way...

Cool! We're looking for self-contained one-s...

I just checked out Japanimatin Fist for the first time today, and I have to say, it really took me by surprise! The early strips were all very cute, with their superhero cliche send-ups rendered in Hello Kitty art style. It was fun, but really just fluff. [Spoiler]The story grows tremendously in one...

Bone is a good one -- and a good followup to it would be Castle Waiting. Once upon a time, Strangers in Paradise would have been one of the first things to spring to mind for me. I would still recommend the early collections. But the more recent stuff has gotten a bit convoluted and even nonsensical...

Skipping back to Sam Keith for a bit -- he actually does have some potential use here. The Maxx was the first comic my wife started reading, after having seen the MTV cartoon. Granted, she didn't expand beyond that for years, but she didn't have anyone giving her incentive to either. Once she and I ...

When I wanted my Mom to understand why I was interested in writing comics (she worried that I was going to "squander my talent"), the books I gave her were: A Contract with God - Will Eisner MAUS - Art Spieglman Breakfast After Noon - Andi Watson All three worked very well, leaving her far more enth...

Most of these comics are not very funny, nor do they have much of a story. These comics are hardly creative (most being created by kids). The question I have to ask when people do this, WHY? It just makes no sense. Is it a tribute? Is it laziness? Do they actually think it's cool? Why not use your ...

I thought you did an excellent job with this comic. I realize it was intended initially as a storyboard for a short film, but I think that actually worked for it -- it was a complete enough storyboard that it read clearly, and where you did use traditional storyboard techniques, it felt more like st...

One of the biggest problems with religious morality is that the reasons behind the moralisms are obscure or non-existent. And some will say, "You don't need logic, you just need to know that God said so," but the problem with this is that even in a historical context, it's just not true. Most religi...

Re: RE: Atheism

The atheist who brought suit was not so much concerned about his child saying the word "God", but simply hearing it. No one was forcing his child to participate. He was trying to dictate was the other children could say. He was trying to take away their right to say "God". He was taking the attitud...

Okay, I actually went back and read a bunch of your comics. There were a few chuckles in there -- the "what was he talking about...something about a submarine?" was funny, and I liked the "Trust No One" quarter, though I thought that strip would have been stronger without the other three coins. I th...
