Ultimate X-Men in Japan

Post by gazorenzoku »

I got an e-mail from Amazon.co.jp (Amazon.com Japan) today advertising X-Men comics that have been translated into Japanese. I read a little of the e-mail, which basically talked about the X-Men 2 movie opening up here on May 3 (same as the US), and "hey, why don't you check out these X-Men comics?" I followed the links and saw that they are advertising and selling none other than Ultimate X-Men graphic novels!!! The first two graphic novels have been translated and are on sale now. I have seen that the English versions have been on sale for some time now at amazon.co.jp, but this is the first time I have heard about a Japanese version. The funny thing was that the advertisement e-mail said absolutely nothing about "Ultimate" at all. These are just being billed as "X-Men comics". I think it is interesting that Marvel and whoever they are licensing the publishing rights to here in Japan are going heavy on the Ultimate X-Men line at the same time the movie comes out. I suppose they both realize that the Ultimate books will probably sell more to new readers....

... here is the link in case anyone is interested. Be prepared for lots of Japanese text, which will show up as really weird symbols if your computer does not have the ability to read Japanese...

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASI ... 22-4403468

but, the image of the book cover should show up fine. And you can click on it if you want to see the enlarged version. I have not seen the version selling in America, so I don't know if the cover for the Japanese version is the same or not, but I didn't see any Japanese text on the cover.....

Also, there is an "American Comic & Movie Super Guide" magazine at:
http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASI ... 22-4403468

and the blown up image is at:
http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/41 ... ZZZZZZ.jpg

(you should be able to see this image even if your computer can not view Japanese characters, because the entire thing is just jpg image file)

In case you still haven't seen it, here is what the American cover of the first Ultimate X-Men book looks like.
      • "But at my back I alwaies hear
        Magneto's minions hurrying near"
        • - Marvell Comics, The Mysterious Men of X

thanks, ray. So, to sum it up, here is the first Ultimate X-Men graphic novel published in Japan:
      http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/41 ... ZZZZZZ.jpg

and here is the one published in America:
      http://images.amazon.com/images/P/07851 ... ZZZZZZ.jpg

I think the Japanese published version is cooler, personally. What do other people think? I also think it is interesting that there appears to be no Japanese writing on the cover of the Japanese version cover.
