Playing with the 'Z' axis

Post by Tim Mallos »

Hi gang. Just posted a photo essay kind of thing.
I wanted to figure out an interesting way to present a series of photos.

I think this could have application for comics too, especially a 3 card Nancy or Carl.

It was a quick job - there is a bug that I still would like to figure out, but I posted it anyway.

What do you think?

You didn't have to do that. I was just about to reply. :D

This would make a great interface for a Memento-like-comic. Where the reader is droped into the middle of a plot, and would literally have to put the story together.

Wow. trippy. i can see a memento type sequence happening. Perhaps when you rollover the enlarged icons, the word balloons/type pops up or disolves on to reveal the storyline...
just some thoughts.,
great stuff!

More possibilities...

It made a similar impression on me, but I think it would make good stop-off points in a longer detective story. Standard art panels to get sequence going, break into someone's office and use this technique to rifle through the papers on top of the desk, move on to the next scene, maybe you're looking through a file cabinet, patient charts at a hospital, a car's gloce compartment, a suitcase/briefcase, purse, etc....

It could be used to represent a computer screen wherein you bring other program screens to the foreground -- read someone's email, view visited websites, etc. to reveal clues.

All sorts of possibilities -- Very cool!

That's neat. :D Good, suitable music too.

Sometimes I geta mad flickering, I think when two pictures try to occupy the same "space". I don't know if that's intentional, but I quite like it.

Yeah, the flickering is a bug / feature thing. You get two or more images fighting to be in front of one another when they have identical y scales.

So they flop back and forth.

It's technically a bug, but I like the effect too.

The bug I'd still like to figure out is that some images will not move in front of others when you pull them all the way forward. Kinda kills the effect.

The music is way cool. I was IM-ing with my friend Dan and told him I was looking for cool mood music I had the right to use and he suggested a piece he had that his brother did. His bro (Jon) granted me permission and the rest is...well, at the site I guess.

It really feels neat to have collaborated with two other people, especially cool that the first part of the collaboration was 12 years ago and the second part was accomplished without ever communicating directly.
