FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Modern Tales, the leading publisher of subscription-based webcomics, announced today that
cayetano garza jr's "Whimville" comic strip has launched as a standalone subscription-based website, whimville.com.

http://www.whimville.com

garza was cited by Scott McCloud, in "Reinventing Comics," as one of the pioneers of the online comics field.

"cat's been wanting to do this solo subscription site for quite some time," said Manley. "This is part of our growth plan for those Modern Tales cartoonists whose work becomes popular enough to sustain a website commercially all by themselves." Other solo sites published by the company include Lea Hernandez's RumbleGirls.com and James Kochalka's AmericanElf.com.

garza (who prefers not to see his name in capital letters) has been a fixture on the Modern Tales flagship site, ModernTales.com, since its launch a little over a year ago.

"Whimville is the place where all the imaginary friends of children throughout the world live," said garza. "It's been overrun by brainbunnies, these creatures that possess the imaginary friends. There's three of them left: my two main characters, Mugsy and Bugsy, and Doc Sprocket, who is an inventor. He was the imaginary friend
for all of the geniuses that have come through science. He's the epitome of science. He's developed technology to the point that it's almost like magic, but it still uses the laws of the known universe. There's two children, Max and Percy -- Percephone -- and they're going to be pulled into the land of Whimville soon enough, to help save it from the brainbunnies. It's basically the story of these two children as
they get older. I'm trying to keep it clean and general-audience."

The strip will update daily. The price for Whimville.com is $1/month for current Modern Tales subscribers, or $1.95/month for those who are not current customers of the company.
