How much to pay for a guest intro/foreword for your book?

Post by phdillard »

Hello. I have a question, though I don't know if there is a tangible answer. I have a horror comic project launching in a few months and contacted a fairly famous horror actor/stuntman/makeup and FX guy about writing a short piece for the first issue. He has said that it is something he would be interested in and wants to know what my offer is. I have no clue what is reasonable. It's nothing as draining as a con appearance. I'm only asking for a couple paragraphs to print in a run that probably wont be over 500 copies. Is a few hundred dollars an acceptable offer or are we talking thousands?

Make an offer. Worst that can happen is he says no. If it won't be over 500 copies, your take on it will be marginally low. I'd probably try for the lower offer and add in 20 copies for his friends and families and 20 to show at con's. Copies benefit both of you.
