Tarquin Engine Release Status?

Post by BuckBeaver »

Hi everyone,

I have been busy with other things and out of the web comics loop for many months so please forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forum...I was wondering if there has been any word on a public release of the Tarquin engine? I noticed a post from February in another thread where Merlin indicated that he was working with a final release version.

No word yet - we remain in a state of "very close" to release.

I'm basically waiting on Joey to launch Webcomics Nation, which I'm going to use to provide the tools for selling subscriptions to a site where you can download the engine.

Webcomics Nation should hopefully be appearing quite soon, so fingers crossed.

In the meantime, I spent a day last week rewriting the scaling and zooming code the engine uses. It now works much better, with smoother transitions and more options for the creator to customise how that transition takes place.

The new code can be seen in action on this new comic:

And on this older comic, which I've updated to use the new code:

Compare and contrast to Externality:

which is still running on the old code, and hopefully the improvement becomes clear.

I've heard that the above information is out of date...

Indeed!

Wanted to post here on Friday before I went AWOL for the weekend, but my day got jam-packed and I didn't get the chance.

The Tarquin Engine is now available for purchase here:

(I saw 'now' - the server seems to be down at the moment. I'm sure it'll be back up in no time, though).
