Published writer seeking artist for Small Press Idol

Post by zeroice »

It’s that time again! Small Press Idol 2010 is about to take off and I’d like to get in on it again. I competed last year with my book Steel Rising http://www.carpetbombcomics.com/steelrising/ which made it to the semi-final round and placed 5th (the top four moved into the finals, so we were the top of the losers!) We’re finishing up our 12 page story from last years contest that is set to be published in Dimestore’s Mysterious Visions Anthology later this year and getting ready to move into issue #1 on that.

I have a few different ideas I’m playing around with right now, and I’d be open to developing any ideas my artist throws at me. I think I’m pretty easy to work, I like input from my art team and try to leave room for my artists to get creative with my scripts.

From my past experience with the contest, I will say that you must be dedicated and committed to the project. It takes a lot of work to put everything together, beyond the actual art duties you will need to spend a good bit of time on marketing and promotions. You must be able to give everything you have to this.

No upfront pay to offer, but the rewards of the contest are worth way more than the few bucks I could give. Grand prize winner gets a 4 issue publishing deal plus a cash prize (last years cash prize was $700). It’s also just been announced that Shocker Toys is going to be a sponsor and will produce a toy based on the winner. We are guaranteed to be published if we make it past Round 1. And biggest of all is the exposure! I made some great connections (and a few new friends) in last years contest, and that alone was worth the entry.

Send all serious inquiries to zeroice013@yahoo.com. Please attach samples or a link to gallery. If you can do it all (pencils, inks, colors) that would be great. If you do digital painting that would be really great (because I love the style and think it would work with my story). But I’ll look at everything, so send it my way. Be sure to put “Small Press Idol” somewhere in the subject so I don’t delete it as spam.

If you're not familiar with the contest read about it here: http://www.smallpressidol.com/2010/start.htm

And here's a direct link to my entry from last years contest to give you a better idea of what I'm capable of.
