Five Card Bob
Hey, maybe if we get enough of this strip we'll be able to play Five Card Nancy with it, seeing as how the panels are all the same.

Ah... in the third panel of Uninformed Bob #4, it should be, "changed its name," not "it's." Remember that "it's" stands for "it is."
Nitpicking is fun.

Of two tones and twisted visions
I must say, after missing Bob for two days, I enjoy the developments. A few random things I like:
- Scott switching the last panel of every strip to a singel image, that's a different color than the rest! Adds more to the effect.
- I love the idea (although only two non-concurrent Bob strips have used it so far, so it might not be a Bobly trend) of telling the story of a fictional creator through the strip itself. This is getting my own wheels turning.
- Just a side comment, I think it's great that 'Bob' uses the strip format as a storytelling tool. This probably belongs in the RC forum, but my only beef with the infinite canvas is the lack of the ability to use the page as a storytelling tool (Best web comic to effectively use controlled page-like perception: Nowhere Girl

The tormented artist.
Anybody wonder who Morrie Dugan is? I'm guessing that it's either the name of somebody Scott actually knows (or knew at some time) or it's a composite of somebody's name that he's heard and decided to use.
I only say that, because that's often where I get the names for characters in my comics.
Fulgore, I don't follow you about the panels of another color. It all looks black to me. Am I missing something?
...and I'd have to agree with Bob's description of a newspaper syndicate. He obviously knows a lot more than he lets on.

I really think what we're seeing here, rather than just a comment on stereotypical comic humor, is the story of a comic strip writer who has become bitter and disillusioned. Morrie Dugan is our actual main character, not Bob. Bob is just the mouthpiece. The Newspaper Syndicate comment is the most obvious clue. But Bob's comment about his wife running off with his editor is also very telling. People whose jobs involve having an editor don't tend to wear work shirts that have a name patch on them -- as Bob's shirt does. That was Dugan talking about his own editor and wife.

The old gag
Sorry to dreg this up, but for anyone unlucky enough to not have seen it, here's a rough prose recollection of the original C&H comic (cuz I don't have it with me, and I've no idea how to search for a specific comic online -- this should be another McCloud project, eh? Comics search engines?):Anonymous wrote:As a Point of Information, "The world used to be Black and White" is an old Calvin & Hobbes gag
Calvin asks his dad why old photos are black and white. Cal's dad sez, "The whole world was black and white; it didn't turn color until the 60s [ ], and even then it was grainy."
"So why didn't the photos turn color with everything else?"
"Because they were color photos of black-and-white people [or something to that effect]."
We also learn that paintings are color because the paint turned color with everything else. Then Calvin says something to his mother, who yells something to his father (one of my favorite C&H hallmarks).
Yeah, I think that wraps it up. By the way, this Uninformed Bob (which seemed doomed to me at first) is intriguing. Leave it to Scott to turn oldies into goodies.
Oh, er, by the way, Scott, for a small donation to your site, could I be granted the privilege of scanning the short-short version of Carl, sending it to CafePress, and making t-shirts? Then, of course, I'd give you the account. I.e., I'll do the work, if you grant the license.

apostrophe
Actually, the apostrophe in A's is used to indicate a contraction, or missing letters (ex. can't for can not , 'cause for because, ol' for old), since it is a shortening of the word Athletics, the club's original nickname from when they played in Philadelphia; and NOT to indicate plurality.Actually, the use of the "plural apostrophe" is proper on single letters and on numbers. A good example of that is the ol' Oakland A's, which were not the Oakland As.
Of course you could ask Connie Mack, or Charlie O. Finley, but they're both dead.
My namesake's mom?
The woman constantly slapping her forehead: is that Carl's mom from _Understanding Comics_ and then "Choose Your Own Carl"? Sure looks like her to me.

Uninformed Bob is looking quite good.
This newest one, with the scribbles through it, very weird! And under the scribbles, it LOOKS like it says...
"Damn it! (?) I hate it! I hate everything! Just kill me! Kill me!"
"Now (something) scatter my ashes out to sea! If I have to spend one more f*cking day on this"
"Miserable ball of sh*t I'm going to vomit out my eyeballs and burst into f*cking flames!!!!!!!!"
"Okey Dokey, Thanks!"
"Oh, that Bob! Will he ever learn?!"
Anyone see anything different, or fill in the blanks? Poor "Sorrie". I have a bad feeling about the next one... like maybe it's written by his estate.

Scribbled Out Text...
I think it was "Dammit" at the beginning, and the missing word is "and", to be read across the panels as "Kill me now and scatter my ashes out to sea!"
Was the scribbling done by Morrie, or his grandson, though?

Uninformed Bob
The repetitive nature of the comic with its slight variations makes me think that Bob may be a friend of Carl's. I could see a Carl strip made of this quite easily! By the way, the crossed out wording in the last panel is quite harsh!!
Mike Patton
Nice job mentioning Mike Patton there, Scott!
For those who may not know, Mike is/was the frontman for the bands Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, and Tomahawk. He is also currently involved in the band Loveage, with Dan the Automator of Gorillaz fame. Does anybody know anything "official" about Mike being into comics?
Check out Fanotmas' first album ? it's a cacophonic burst of sound effects and bizarre vocals that actually (sort of) corresponds to the comic images in the album's liner notes. Plus, on Tomahawk's recent release, the sleeve features artwork by woodcut artist Lynd Ward (God's Man).
So, like I said, anybody know for sure what level of involvement with comics the guy has?

The first Mr. Bungle album is astonishing, but it's also the most lyrically disgusting album I own. (I suspect between the lyrics and the various sound effects that it was a calculated, ironic immaturity, or something, but wow, it doesn't work for me.)
The third album is equally astonishing and lacks the potty humor. (I want to say more astonishing, but as much as California [the third album] is full of crazy stuff that I'm amazed anyone would ever possibly think of, the first albums's death-metal/circus-music vibe is a hard vibe to top.) Recommended if you appreciate the first. (All of my first-album-liking friends didn't think much of the second and loved the third.)

Thanks, Scott. Er, Mr. McCloud. Sir. What I really want is a lengthy discussion of my many-style, many-plot comic, Liquid Velcro -- but I'll bug you in the Reinventing section for that.

Is Morrie Dugan related to Jim Davis?
I bet if you stacked together a group of Garfield strips, you'd have the same repetitive pattern as Uninformed Bob. Probably would work with Cathy, and at least dozen other strips.
I wonder if Nancy falls into this category?
