Artist wanted for dystopian sci-fi tale.

Post by darker_nite »

Hi,

I'm a writer who currently has publishing deals with AMM Markosia and Lucha Comics (my first published work can be found here https://www.comixology.com/Reality-1/di ... Avc2xpZGVy) and I'm looking for a collaborative partner to continue this success.

I'm looking for an artist with a dark an edgy style to put together a pitch for a 9 part comic series entitled 'Right to Achieve.'

The comic is set in a future world where achievement is illegal as it may make those who are unable to achieve feel useless. In this world a young woman named Kara leads the Human Achievement League as they seek to inspire the population by preforming amazing, yet illegal feats that leave them branded as terrorists. If you're interested I have more information and the script for the first issue complete and available to read.

As I said I'm looking for someone with a dark and edgy style to really get across the bleakness of this world.

This would be a back end deal and as such I would be willing to offer the right artist 50% ownership of the project.

If you are interested in this project please contact me at tmcdougall80@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Tony

It's cool that you have a deal already but your concept is a little confusing. What sort of "achievement" is outlawed? An "achievement" is a very vague term, though you seem to imply any improvement to the status quo.

Also, and you may already be aware of this, but your idea sounds very objectivist and Randian. Ayn Rand wrote a book called "Atlas Shrugged" about a a world where things had to be "fair" or rather that achievement was shared. If a steel plant was too successful it would be told by governmental edit to slow production to match its competitors, if a railroad worked better than another railroad it would be "legally" pushed out of business. Although it is never explicitly stated, Ayn Rand's world is that of underachievers leaching off of the world's too genius by use of political tactics. So in a very direct way high achievers were punished to the point that they banded together to strike, causing the world to fall apart so it could be born anew. I guess what brings on the comparison the most is the argument that it is unfair to the underachievers that others succeed that formed a primary buzzline for the corrupt politicians.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is what makes your idea stand out. Again, all you say is that the genius's are encouraged not to be geniuses but you don't describe the world that comes to be because of this philosophy. Although Rand is a very interesting author (I myself am a big fan even though I don't follow her Objectivist philosophy) simply using a theme she has well established does not a good story make I believe. Tell us more about the world. Give us more detail, is the world a farenheight 451 normally functioning world but with a soul crushing ideology, is it an Orwellian big brother type of world, or is it a Matrix style wasteland of a human race cast to the fringe of extinction? Tell us specifics of the politics of this world, who benefits from underachievement and what are the side effects?

I'd be very interested to hear more about this world. It's a good start but I think we'd appreciate seeing more.
Sincerely,
Ruyei
