Let's set a date, sometime in the next two weeks, and do it. You do whatever you come with on the computer, and I will try likewise, and we will meet back here to see what we came up with. _________________ Check out this week's Featured Creature |

sounds like a plan. Would it be ok with you if we did it sometime after the 22nd? What time zone do you live in? (that kind of sounds like some kind of geeky insult, but it isn't meant to be...)

Can I join in on the lunch-hour-comics rally? I've got a tablet and just need the impetus. Just let me know the date you guys decide. I'm one hour ahead of GMT.

Please do. Loved your Indy Rock Pete by the way. Looking forward to Radiopolis.
How would Sunday, Spetember 22nd be? We might have a hard time getting an exact hour because of the time difference, but we could try. I am in the EST zone.
Do we want to set any other limitations, besides the one hour, and the use of the computer? _________________ Check out this week's Featured Creature |

The 22nd is ok with me, but I don't know exactly what time I will be available. My grad school entrance exam/interview is on that day, and I don't know what time it will be over.... Also, that night I will definitely be numbing my senses in some sort of way to celebrate the end of all the bastardly things I am doing now to prepare for that blasted test... probably I will be in no state to draw a comic.... although, it might make for an interesting piece....
Anyhow, I would like to fit the one hour comic in between those two major events.... probably falling around 7-8 in the evening Japan time. That's probably some time in the morning for most of you folks in the west, I imagine, which means that I could have mine done before you guys wake up if that is ok with you.... Though I imagine it would be more fun if we do it together.... let me know what times you are free and I will see when I can be free....
Looking forward to it!

I could work it in on Monday the 23rd, but it would have to be afternoon or evening (which is a not a big deal). You could do yours the same day, but in the morning, and we could aim to have them up for... what's the time difference again?
I will check and get back to you. _________________ Check out this week's Featured Creature |

Time difference...... yeah...... I always calculate the time difference to fit the time in Austin, Texas, which is where my family lives. Japan is 14-15 hours ahead of the time zone that Austin, Texas is in, depending on the time of year (Japan has no yearly time change).
For example, right now it is 10:45 Friday morning here in overcast Sapporo, which means it is either 7:45 or 8:45 Thursday night in sunny Austin, TX.
I suppose it goes without saying that I am free anytime on the 23rd.

I just found out I have an important meeting at school Monday night, and won't be coming home before hand. How about I do mine Sunday afternoon, and we just set a 24 hour period in which our 1 hour comics must be online (and maybe we should include a brief explanation of how we spent our time)? _________________ Check out this week's Featured Creature |

I don't think I'll be able to get to the one hour comic tonight... how about tomorrow? I'll do it and wait until I get the go ahead, and then I'll upload it. It is Sunday night for me right now, though I suppose it is Sunday morning for you all in the west.
I'll do mine on Monday night, which will be Monday morning for you. If that is ok.... sorry. I know you have something planed on Monday. If you want to have that special experience of doing it at the same time, let me know. I'll be free all week this week. Otherwise, I'll just do mine on my Monday night and upload it whenever you are ready to enjoy some uploading performance art.

My hour is up, so despite the fact that, at the forty minute point, I discovered Macromedia Flash had deleted all my linework for the first six panels, I plugged on and "finished" it as is.
Since it took me an hour to do all that, I didn't bother going further or redrawing/finishing it. It was a good exercise, though. I had artist's block for the first twenty minutes, so as you'll see...it's not the most ORIGINAL idea...but it was fun to draw. (Probably subliminally influenced by reading a little too much Bill Watterson and Paul Adam lately.)
Gazo, JpF, I didn't know exactly when you guys were going to draw it...apologies if I jumped the gun! I look forward to seeing what y'all do. (If you want to, don't click on the link below until you finish yours and we can all, um, simulate that everyone did theirs at the same time, ...yeeeah, that's the ticket.)

I am just about to start. It's almost 6:15 pm here. I will read yours after Jason. Be back in an hour
*****
Okay, it's 6:18pm, and I'm just waiting for the page to finish uploading. It's pretty silly, and not exactly a piece of art (or a "piece of resistance", as my father sometimes jokes), but I did it in an hour.
I think I might have gotten more done if I hadn't tried to think in panels, but I will have to live with this one for now. You should be able to find it here.
Now I'm going to go read Jason's
*****
Just as I suspected, Jason kicked some @$$. Way to go! It's amazing what some people can get done in an hour. _________________ Check out this week's Featured Creature |

Though you kept true to the spirit of the thing, but I'm probably not alone in wanting to see you replace the lost bits and complete it. Of course, that's entirely up to you. _________________ Good morning! That's a nice tnetennba. |

I did find the files anyway, and it's a good submission to the genre. I should do one on the computer, considering the paucity of comments on my last ballpoint submission. |

Jason's was great. Bill, unfortunately I couldn't view yours... For some reason the graphics could not be seen... Only that little "x" that shows up when the graphics don't download. _________________ Vince Coleman

Argh! I will fix it when I get home. Sorry about that everybody. I posted everything, without double-checking that the images were properly renamed. I would fix it now, but I don't have access. I will be home late, so watch for it first thing tomorrow morning.

Vince, Bill, I laughed out loud reading both of your comics. Great job!
Did you guys feel as rushed as I did?
Thanks guys. It's a lot more fun when you finish if you know you have other people's work to enjoy as well. Any time y'all want to do another one of these, please let me know.
("BLOOD OF CARTOONIST!!!!")
You guys rock.

Maybe we could do one every week or every couple of weeks or something like that. It sure was fun.

It might be hard to organize every week, but I would be willing to give it a shot.
Actually, I had been trying to convince a bunch of local people to do something like this on paper, but it's never gotten off the ground. I sort of liked the idea of suggesting a phrase, or a theme, and then having everyone do their one hour comic from there. Sort of a one hour comic improv. What do you think?
BTW. I've checked my page, and it seems to be working now, for anyone who didn't get it the first time. It's here: http://www.dunktank.ca/punkman.html _________________ Check out this week's Featured Creature |

As a Smashing Pumpkins fan, that tickles me.
Between this one, "blood of a cartoonist" and Jason's phlemy comic, it's all rather... visceral, isn't it? You must have been tuned into the same wavelength. _________________ Good morning! That's a nice tnetennba. |

Maybe once a month would be fun. Even though it is only an hour, it sure is a hectic hour... It's a lot of fun, but I don't know if I would feel the same way if I had to do one every week...

Your shapes and colors just keep getting nicer and nicer to look at. It's pure "cartoon". I love it.
You do your work on Illustrator, right? I suppose that means that you don't concern yourself with petty things like dpi, so you could always print anything you make....
you bastard. I have to get Illustrator!! (especially since johnny storm introduced me to that software that can convert a scan into a vector file for work in illustrator. I would trade all the Photoshop effects for the ability to have a file that I could either print or put on the web as I choose... Plus, the way you do flat colors really prooves that Illustrator is way more than enough to produce great art!)

...Then again, I just remembered that my dad has a jogging group that meets every Sunday morning for a jog together. They then go out to breakfast before coming home, and I always wondered if they just walk into the restaraunt all sweaty or towel off or what... but that's neither here nor there.
What I meant to say was that, if he can get together and jog once a week with some buddies, maybe we can get together and do a one hour comic once a week. We wouldn't be able to drag our sweaty selves into an eatery afterwards, but we could bask in the sunshine of all the comments from people who read the stuff...
Maybe we can set a common upload time, or a deadline for the comic to be uploaded... For example, I could devote an hour every Sunday to this event. I could upload mine every Sunday night, which would be Sunday morning for most of you folks. Then, you could do the same, so by Monday morning or afternoon for me (Sunday night for you), all the comics will be uploaded. In this case, the deadline would be "Sunday Night". We could even make it kind of like a club... the Sunday Night Hour Club or the One Hour Sunday Club or something....
If every week is too hectic for any one person, then they can opt out as many times as they like.
...I don't know... if it gets too lenient, then it isn't like a club, but if it gets too strict, then it isn't any fun. Any ideas?

Or maybe we all used to work for the CIA, and are sending coded messages through these one hour comics, but we have been brainwashed to forget that we worked for the CIA and we don't know that we are sending the messages. One of us has even relocated to Canada and thinks he is a Canadian citizen, but really he is a tripple agent for Germany!!
ok, I should stick to writing superhero comics and stay off the forums, I guess...
