I was wondering about those eyes, too (I don't remember an example in "Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga", actually...).

My first impression was more along the lines of Dante's Inferno, and how if you're really evil your soul goes straight to hell and your body gets commandeered by a demon. Of course, if that were true, then Kirk would have to die in the next panel...

Holy Un-sacred Cow, I was right for once!

Of course, things might have gone a lot easier if he just called Father Merrin.

Chicken Pepsi... that's bland stuff. Even Ferris doesn't want to know. Give me an Anchovy Coke anytime.

Worst host ever?

I thought that title was reserved for Chevy Chase.

Nope. Pat Sajak all the way, baby!

And for the fellow who doesn't like Kirk - - I am Spartacus!

Now you do it!

Y'know, in panel 13 I really thought she was going to just say "Okay" like she'd done previously.

Heh. Same here. Although it is kind of amusing to see her apathetic passivity (is that even a word?) disrupted by the little devil coming on to her. Maybe she's the next host in line? If it's the Evil Men Forget to Do maybe a woman won't forget to do it.

I knew it!

I knew that Brad Pitt was in league with the denizens of Hell. How else could someone as wooden as a cigar store Indian get so many acting gigs, unless he sold his soul to the Devil?

By the way, I am Spartacus.

And I am Miles Gloriousus. Actually, I'm not, but my friend is.

Hmmm...perhaps a breakup of Bennifer?

Or maybe she's the reason why the wedding was postponed! She caused evil! Yeah!...
I'll shut up now.

Yeah, Scott should have picked up Kirk Douglas' tommy-gun, and filled that demon full of hot, merciless lead, and then made off with the girl, and taught her to understand comics.

"That'll learn 'er!"

BTW Am I only one that sees a bit of that Vulcan gal from Enterprise in Hortense?

Curtain up.

Decaf creeps up to the mike. He is dressed in drab, non-confrontational clothing.

He coughs below the mike's threshold. He taps it gently and cringes at the resultant dissonance.

"Er...one could say...that half of Mr. McCloud's recent comics...could just as well have ended this way?"

He bites his lip. It bleeds.

"I respect him greatly, but I feel like quality has fallen since "Man-eating Shoes" and "Meadow of the Damned" when Mr. McCloud knew just where he was going when he picked the title. Or if he didn't, he could've fooled me.

"So, erm, I just wish him the best in planning the next comic, and I hope it is concrete enough that my puny gray matter can grasp it. An understandable comic -- heh, heh -- will refresh my faith in Mr. McCloud and spur me to vote for titles that matter."

Decaf sighs, but he crumples, unable to refill his lungs. A medic drags him from the stage.

Curtain down.

I don't think that question is out of bounds. I guess the question is what should the nature of the "improv" part of the M.I. be? How much does planning come into it? I suspect that the answer is something along the lines that in some cases, a title suggests a story to him fully-formed, with an ending, and some times he just has no idea what he'll be doing from one day to the next (so it's really improvised each morning).

I would disagree, however, that the endings have been weaker since "Man-Eating Shoes." Some have been better than others but, for the most part, I think they work. "Somnivore," "Uninformed Bob," and "The Parallelogram's Revenge" in particular strike me as quite well done.

Further- The practice of allowing the audience to vote on what the next title is would actually increase the likelihood that a title will be chosen that doesn't speak immediately to his creative process.
