Gees, now my brain hurts even more.
Tim Mallos wrote:I still say that Brimley is going to ask Susan out for a nice fish dinner.

Hmmm. Unless he can't talk. Maybe he has a dinner invitation printed on a business card.
Who could talk with two big tusks like that in his mouth?

Of course I could make a dozen dirty jokes concerning fish and sex, but I'll leave it up your imaginations (assuming you all have a dirty minds, like me.)

Bet ya these last...oh, say twelve panels are all a dream.
And der brimster is going to really wake up to a darkened room.

(Actually, I trust Scott too much to think he'd take such an easy out)

Tell me if I'm stating the glaringly obvious, but I'll bet that the day will just repeat itself tomorrow...minus the pirate antics of Stuart, unless perhaps the strip continues on much longer. Every day, someone will loose their job to those pesky numbers!

On a side note, my previous name should have been "Forgot to register". I am now forever shamed with my ineptitude to remember to perform such rudamentary tasks as clicking a mouse and completing various fields of test. Thusly, to remind myself of such fundamental proceedures, my previous name shall remain.

I realized, with some sadness, that Susan may just be handing Brimley back his card, not accepting a second card from him.

There is hope, however, as people do not usually hand business cards back to the owner of the card.

But it kind of looks that way.

Edge of my seat.

Halfway through the fish dinner, Susan will start sobbing about Stuart not noticing her, and Mr. Brimley, feeling out of place, will quietly leave.

No dinner

It looks to me like the Walrus might be turning Susan down.

I will be very sad for her if I'm right.

Wouldn't having Susan dating a warlus be miscegenation? Mr. Brimley (Slooooooooooooowly I turned!) could find himself lynched in the deep south. Of course, I don't think a walrus would be wandering around in that Dixie heat in the first place.

Susan could use Mr. Brimley (Step by step, inch by inch!) as way of making clueless Stuart jealous...assuming he notices Susan dining with the walrus.

out to dinner

Post by Eric F Myers »

Maybe they'll go out and at the restaurant nobody will notice either one of them. Nobody will seat them, nobody will take their order, nobody will fill their glasses, and when they leave not one cab will stop for them (I've had nights like this). I just hope that they're careful crossing the street (since no one will notice the walrus).

while i like the theory of suzie being a nobody or a no one, the title still doesn't work as meaning that she notices brimley
if suzie were a geek, for example, you couldn't say "geek ever noticed the walrus"
"no geek ever noticed the walrus" would works as a statement, but that still leaves us at a loss of people noticing.
since no one can notice the walrus, all we can gather is that suzie must not be a one
therefore we must assume that suzie is NOT a "no one" but rather that she is not a one, whereas everybody else in the office IS a one.
I get it! Suzie is THE ONE! It's all been in the Matrix, the whole time!!!

Darn. Well, that shoots down my theory.

We all understand that "No one noticed the walrus" is just a general title, not an absolute statement covering the entire timeline of the comic? Right? Just like "Ernest goes to camp" is allowed to contain footage of Ernest returning?

Okay, I guess I'm being silly.

That was a very offbeat example you came up with.
And yes, the whole move wasn't about Ernest's trip to camp.

Congratulations to all of you who called the ending!

I realized about 2/3 of the way through that if Susan calls herself a "No One" at the end, she could legitimately notice the Walrus at the end and reward my long-suffering readers for their patience.

Originally, I'd intended to offer no hope whatsoever in the name of fidelity, but as it went on -- and on and on and on -- I welcomed the thought of some earned grace notes at the end.

Thanks for sticking with me!

That was awesome. Very heartstring pulling. I'm actually getting misty-eyed.

Okay, then; time to hand out the ZWOL/M.I. No-Prizes.
Greg Stephens wrote:Rip, your No-Prize is in the mail.
You can leave mine (by my count, I'm owed at least two or three from the Zwol Academy of Sequential Arts and Sciences) in the parking lot of the White Castle on Allerton Ave. and Boston Rd., and one of my loyal operatives will pick it up (don't worry, the cops won't be beating anyone THERE). If Mr. Brimley is interested (he's almost as big as the fatso who got beat-down at that Cincy White Castle), Gino's Cafe, across the street makes, a mean Fillet of Sole Rosette and Zuppa Di Pesce (but they are a bit pricey.) Once I recieve my No-Prizes, I will make a long winded speech thanking all those responsible (and a few that are not), and then lay into a political diatribe, until the music starts blasting my cue to get off stage.
"You like me, you really like me!"

The next question...
Will there be a "Walrus" sequel? Is the relationship between Susan and Mr. Brimley strictly platonic, or is there gonna be some "Hey, hey!"?

See my previous post, on the previous page, about miscegenation. Or is it bestiality. Either way, I'm not an expert on odobenine mating habits. Still, they could at least engage in heavy petting...though those tusks can make "suckin' face" a bit of a problem.

Greg, you should ban Scott from the not-yet-existant Accidental Dentist thread. Then we can see if people are good at predicting, or if Scott's good at incorporating ideas. :)

Arr, Josiah, Rip, you were right and I was wrong.
