What is the Scott McCloud?

Post by Xzengrim »

(...yes, it's a horrible Matrix pun...)

At any rate, is the user with the username Scott McCloud really THE Scott McCloud?! That guy's my friggin' hero! He's a genius. On that note, if it really is him, what the hell is he doing here? I assumed that he would have important, incredibly smart things to be doing, literally all of the time.

Yup. That is indeed The Scott McCloud. As per what he's doing here...this is the official forum for The Morning Improv.

you know, you get used to it, HIM being here. but actually, even though every one acts very casual about it, most people are very excited if HE ever replies to their messages or even cites them in his blog. and i confess, i belong to most people. :D

It's really great that he visits too. So many "official sites" for bands, artist, whatever else, the people running the site never post. It's just so wrong. If only they'd take 5 minutes to make a reply every day, thier fans would love it.

What is the Scott McCloud?

Post by Hunter of Wisdom »

The Scott McCloud is an alien lifeform from a small planet orbiting Sirius.

The Scott McCloud is a robotic elephant.

The Scott McCloud is a new soft drink, fizzy and tasty.

The Scott McCloud is the offspring of Odin, and all that grows or is born in Midg?rd bows before him.

The Scott McCloud is a strange cyborg-like being that was created when a small boy using a drawing tablet was struck by lightning.

The Scott McCloud is king of the spiders, and also all birds that are black.

He's just this guy, you know?

Are we playing the search engine game? That is, the thing where you do a search for a phrase like "Scott McCloud is" and you post what you get from the results.

As per my results from google:
Scott McCloud is...
-Back!
-one of [Aaron Swartz's] favorite writers
-a cartoonist's cartoonist
-one of the loudest voices claiming that the Web is the future of comics
-stealing your bit!
-the author of the site entitled www.scottmccloud.com and runs the project on his own
-the creator of 'Zot!'
-right!
-great because he knows what he is talking about, even if he is wrong
-a writer and artist probably best known for Understanding Comics
-the man.
- available starting August, 2000 from DC Comics and Harper Perennial Books
-positively beaming about 24 Hour Comics Day
-a comic-book hero.
-more than a cartoonist.
-touring Europe to do some interviews.
-using BitPass to determine from among a list of topics which one should be the theme of his next Improv title

...including the startling pair: "Scott McCloud is the devil/Scott McCloud is the messiah" appearing right next to each other even though they're from completely unrelated pages.

A few refer to the bassist from the band Boys Vs Girls, but most are me.

It's...

...kinda scary.

I'm not so worried about WHAT Scott McCloud is...the question I find myself asking is "WHY is Scott McCloud?"

Maybe one day when I am famous, I will get people who will wonder what I am. Until then I am just that sucky artist that posts his stuff on the internet ... and every once in a while, people actualy read it.

Until then ...

Scott McCloud is my hero.
Scott McCloud is under negotiations to come to the Ann Arbor Book Festival (I hope we can meet our fundrasing goal. Cross your fingers.)
Scott McCloud is just a guy who was really smart and charming when I got a chance to talk to him. (But I still think that he should tape his presentation and sell it on his site (my favorite musical band has concert tapes and I still pay the full price to see them in person when I can)).
Scott McCloud kicks ass!

Because it was about time. Because we needed him. He wasn't the first comics guru, but he's the guru of our generation (assuming that most of you are roughly my age). It's not an overstatement to say that Understanding Comics changed the path my life would take. I know I'm not the only one.

Scott is... partially responsible for the person I am today, and for the person I hope to become.

Scott McCloud?

Post by Guest »

Who is this man? I went to google and did a search on my name... Jayne McCloud... and somehow I was directed to this forum. How are things going? Looks like this thread is an interesting one.

*giggle*

I will go back to being a boring person trying to find out a little bit more about me, or other random McClouds.

A Google search on Scott's name would answer that question.
