Written a great script--now what?

Post by jellyzero »

Hi,
I have a quick question that I am sure will require a long answer.
I finished a BATMAN script, using Jeph Loebs technique, and I sent it to DC. As you can imagine they wouldn't accept it because of blah blah blah. So how do I break into this business? Surely there aren't 15 guys who have been writing comics since the beginning of time....what is the secret?

Thanks,
Nick

If somebody told us, it wouldn't be a secret any more. ;)

The path I have heard is write good original stuff, get it made, and get it out.

If it is good stuff, people will want to work with you when you approach them.

Very simple, incredibly complex.

From all of the stories I've heard, you have two ways to do it... though why you'd want to slave your artistic vision is beyond me...

1) Artists hit the cons with their portfolios and shove it into the face of every editor with a table. They throw some business cards their way and hope for the best.

2) Do some indy comics. Hope they get noticed.

You could try the Seeking Comics Artists/Writers forum. I suppose it would help if you had some stories you didn't mind putting online, so that you could link to them as samples of your work.

Is there any chance you could try drawing them yourself? The "Writing up to the level..." thread's got some good points on that.
