any ideas for adding interactivity to two dimensional static images?
right now I'm thinking of making a series of illustrations with a static image base and adding interactivity / animation over it. Any ideas? Any cool websites I should check out?
thanks. _________________ Vince Coleman

Yes, I've been thinking about a comic on a big background map. The story is a sequence of pannels where you follow a character having to do a tour for some reason, and each pannel represents the location over that map.
At first the character is only in one pannel at his starting location and all the other pannels contain only the location and no pannel is connected. Some light effect could be used to show time passing as time passes by.
To "read" the comic, you would have to click on one of the adjacent non linked pannels and a trailer would be added form the previously current pannel to the clicked pannel that would be filled with what happends to the character... Clicking on a previously clicked pannel would "rewind" time till that pannel becomes the current one.
A funny thing with that interface is that there are many readings, and also if you choose always a path not passing by given pannel, then you can read what happens in the location if the character doesn't interact with it.
Seeing someone passing by for example, could make the reader want to rethink his path to meet the person at the time he passes by.
With the light effect (easily done by adding a semi transparent black png on pannels) You will see the past of the character by following the trail and the degading of colors as the sun rises or sets, and the present in the whole map for places where the characted has not passed yet.
If anyone wants to write a scenario using this concept, I'll be glad to help with the technical problems. |

Merl definitely.
Flash is ideal for interactive stuff. It seems pretty good for drawing in, too. |
