They Call Him "McCloud Ajushi"

Post by William G »

Just thought I'd mention this: I picked up a copy of Understanding Comics here in Korea today for 27,000 won... And it wasn't a Chinese-made bootleg!

If it is some fasinating Asian version, it would be cool to see the cover design.

Speaking of foreign versions of UC, maybe Scott chould go translation one step further and do a sort of manga version of UC with an Astro Boy inspired version of his avatar.
Good morning! That's a nice tnetennba.

Nah, it's the same one available in North America with a Korean price tag on it.

But I was surprised to see it. I also came across a couple of Love And Rockets volumes, Shutterbug Follies, This Modern World books, and In The Shadow Of No Towers. Titin, Asterix... all lumped in with XMen trades, and Baby Blues collections.

Isn't his new book supposed to include an Understanding Manga section?

Yup, Making Comics (the new book) will indeed have a short "Understanding Manga" section.

And yeah, U.C. is in about 15 languages at this point. I even visited Korea in '03. Kim Nak ho helped arrange both the translations and the trip. Good guy.

The Korean edition looks nice, but the Japanese is the most beautiful. A white cover with one of my realistic embellished eyes on the cover and my iconic abstraction faces running down the spine.

"Making Comics" eh? I hope nobody interprets it as a 'How to Draw' book. I'll look foreward to it.
