From CBR:
Quote:

While there are currently several other online comics sites in operation, Unbound Comics hopes to stand out from the crowd of usual suspects.

"What separates Unbound Comics from everyone else right now is that we have invested in the partnerships and infrastructure needed to sell secured e-books and we're working to build that market," said Thacker. "Some of the same creators you've read at OPI8.com and NextComics.com are also releasing e-books at Unbound Comics, and in my mind we're all working together to carve out a future for comics in this new market."

Unboundcomics will feature work from both indie creators and seasoned veterans of the industry.

I am very impressed. Nice to see someone go out on a limb and put this kind of thing into practice. I wish these guys every success -- they certainly deserve it. They've got a micropayment system in place, a sound site with nice navigation and what appears to be very high-quality content.

This does look nice, but it's not a panacea; the creator is limited to what can be accomplished in stuff readable by Adobe Acrobat Reader; the minimum price tag to the consumer is $1.50, which kinda rules out very small works (unless they're "bound" into a collection); the finished work is static (the creator can't change it after publication); and the consumer has to make an all-or-nothing decision (they can't buy a page at a time).

Still, since the cost to the creator is nothing, then if the creator is happy working in e-book form and is only interested in publishing larger works on-line, this looks like a pretty good deal...

Unbound good concept. Up to creators to promote works, and attract attention to site.

Tease surfer on your site ... then send to Unbound for full work.

If tease is good, sure to make sales.

Still -- must attract people to your website first....

This where personal touch comes in. Word of mouth, printed material, etc.

Grassroots starts in dirt, not in sky. Must get dirty to succeed.
