Ah yes, nice bits of "automatic drawing".

When I taught drawing years ago, I always encouraged students to overwork everything in the beginning - esp. in ink. I was going by the principal, "You have to do too much to know what too much is".

Their results often resembled the chaotic detail you're dealing with here.

As an artistic exercise, this sort of thing can do one worlds of good. Particularly if you're an anal about drawing as I am.
