Wow Ben!

Post by japanimationfist »

I just read your latest one-hour effort, and loved it. It was like a visual haiku (sorta). I think I want to try one now... I have to be away for a few days, but I will have one done by this time next week. I don't have anywhere to put it up for the moment, but I will see what I can come up with. Very cool.

Seemed like too much fun to pass up...

Decided to take an hour last night and doodle a "lunch-hour comic" myself. Slightly different style than I usually go with, freehanded in pen. I wasn't too happy with it, but then again, it's only an hour-comic.

Great idea, Ben. I agree with japanimationfist on your latest work...very poetic.

That one's really good Jason.

I think I'll try and make another one tomorrow, we can't let this die down, damn it!

I wonder why, but these one-hour comics seem to be better than most one page comics I know. Nice work. I'll try to post one too, in about three hours time (One hour to wake up, one hour to draw in Illustrator, one hour to post it)

'til then! 8)

Voil?!

My first one-hour comic, my second comic online, and my first comic done exclusively in Illustrator.

It took me one hour and 5 minutes actually (5 minutes for the text), and it took me about half an hour to figure out how to get it on the net (as I'm still rather new  )

It isn't as good as my first one though, but hey, when I'll get used to the tools I'll be able to work faster  ...and perhaps get some more story and less atmosphere in 'em :D

HERE it is: http://homepage.mac.com/yingo/.Pictures ... coffee.jpg, and to compare with my first one:...

well, that's it 8)

Hmm.. I see that Robert "Chappy" Ullman is doing what he calls "Lunch Hour Comix" on his site. I think he came up with this entirely independant of this conversation.
Good morning! That's a nice tnetennba.

Is anyone still doing this? I tried the 24 hour comic last weekend, and now I am game to do a few of these, but it is always more fun when there's a group of people doing it. Any other takers?

Ok, here is my first try. I didn't really fit the required amount of panels, I think, and with upload time I went a little bit over an hour, but here it is anyhow. In my own defense I can only say that I am a complete idiot... wait a minute, that's not what I wanted to say.... oh, yeah, I am currently staying home sick, and was watching daytime t.v. as I drew the comic, so there you have it.

I hope to do more of these later...

Looks great Vince. I did one last night, and will try to post it before the weekend, if I can find someone to scan it!

sort of a one hour work

Post by jturner »

Well I was feeling bad about the lack of updates on my site the past week or two, so I thought I would try a one hour thing. The problem was that I was out enjoying the sunny afternoon and did the comic in a park, and I had no watch with me. I think it probably took no longer than an hour to draw, and another fifteen minutes or so to scan when I got home.

I like it.

Vince

p.s. I wonder how many people are actually sticking to the hour time limit exactly... I mean down to the minute... down to the second.... After all, there's really no way to know, is there?.... not that it really matters all that much anyhow.....

p.p.s. Is it too dorky to put a p.s. in a forum post these days?

Here's the link to mine: http://japanimationfist.keenspace.com/1hourp1.html

I've actually had it up for about a week, but I forgot to post a note up here. Most people will likely think that I am completely insane when they read this. I tried to start the first fram without any preconceived idea of what I was going to do, and this is what came out. Strange... Anyway, I think I will try a few more this week.

I don't think it's insane. One of the better ones I've seen. You did the whole thing in an hour?

The first one kind of sucked, so I did another one a few weeks back. I only managed three pages, but I think that I got a more coherent story. You'll find it here.

No. I thought that forcing myself to get everything done in one hour on a computer might be too much. I can be a little looser on paper. Might be worth trying some time soon though. I did do my contribution to the 9-11 jam on this site with my tablet though.

hmmm.... I was just thinking the other day how it might actually be easier to get a one hour comic done on the computer than on paper to cut down on scanning time and such. Also, for making cool looking straight lines for the panels and smooth word balloons, a computer is certainly faster than the hand (unless of course you don't want smooth word balloons and straight lines for the panels).

I might give it a go around some time soon... I guess then I'll find out which method works faster for me.

The one problem with working on the computer is that it is soooo tempting to play with different fonts and color aplications and stuff like that.... That would take up a lot of time.
