This link thanks to UserFriendly.

Janis Ian, 30-year professional musician, recently wrote an article for a music industry magazine in which she challenged the music publishing industry's official position. Her experience is that offering free music in digital format on the 'net increases her sales from her catalog of old material, rather than robbing her of sales.

Her testimony applies to one of the primary arguments Scott McCloud makes in part one of his micropayments ICST. Since some folks argue with Scott's assertion that low barriers to trying new things are essential to expanding the overall paid consumption of art, I thought Janis Ian's story deserves a mention here.

Best regards,
John.
