Opportunity for commission and/or collaborative partnership

Post by Doctah »

I am finishing my doctoral dissertation in history and have come to realize that producing art is more gratifying than making academic arguments. Academic arguments help me to pay bills, but I believe that everyone owes it to themselves to create art if they want to die with a sense of fulfillment. Starting in January, I will have 5 months of relatively free time as I conduct one seminar and execute post-viva edits and revisions and it is during this time that I hope to work on this project. My previous fiction writing experience includes a fantasy serial called "The Harriers" which was published on the now-defunct site rpgtimes.net from 2000-2002. I was also lead script-writer for the "Return of Middle Earth: 5th Age" NWN2 mod which ran from 2007-2010.

This project draws on previous ideas and themes that I have written on but, in keeping with commercial trends, posits a different setting combining previously disparate themes in a new format and across media platforms. Without giving too much away, the setting could be superficially categorized as veiled historical fiction (e.g. as Game of Thrones draws on the War of the Roses) in a post-Apocalyptic/dystopian low fantasy setting (e.g. "Book of Eli" or "Mad Max") with a healthy dose of End Times/Lovecraftian-inspired horror (e.g. "Evil Dead" or "Drag Me To Hell"). I am interested in presenting this project as a comic/web comic/graphic novel, but with the intent to parlay the brand across mediums including miniatures/figurines and video games.

A single artist with interests that span genres including Comic Noir, photorealism, manga/anime and the sort of water-color inspired work of Yoshitaka Amano and Kent Williams that is also interested in a 50/50 collaborative partnership would be ideal. I realize what a tall order that is, however, and am prepared to discuss direct commissions for character conceptualization and branding-- cash for art -- commensurate with experience, particularly publishing experience or experience in producing miniatures/figurines.

If interested, please contact me by PM. Please specify if you are interested primarily in collaboration or commission although in the case of the perfect artist, with "rolodex connections" to bring to the table, I am open to financial remuneration AND 50/50 partnership. Please give links to your work and your rates of commission along with your basic stats: influences, time zone/country (I am at GMT/United Kingdom), primary language (mine is English, but I also speak Spanish and French).
