Prompted by this thread, let's do the listing thing:

What's your current favorite comic, and why? (This can be in any format: traditional comic book, graphic novel, online, whatever!)

I just picked up <u>Jar of Fools</u> by Jason Lutes after having read the exerpt from it in Reinventing Comics. I thought it was quite brilliant.

In print, <http://www.warrenellis.com/">Warren Ellis</a>'s <I>Transmetropolitan</i> and <i>Planetary</i>. I'm also enjoying Lutes' <I>Berlin</i>, although I've only read the first collection, and I just recently found a copy of <a href="http://www.scottmccloud.com/">Scott McCloud</a>'s classic <I>Zot!</I> (a nice reprint edition from 1997 or so), and that's really got me going now.

Online, my fav's include <a href="http://www.scottmccloud.com/comics/zot/ ... ml"><I>Zot! Online</I></a> and <I>Zwol</I>. <a href="http://www.nuklearpower.com/comic/"></i>8-bit Theatre</i></a> is also rather entertaining.

Why? <I>Transmetropolitan</I> because it's like nothing else on the stands: disgusting, imaginative, and wickedly funny sci-fi with excellent pencils by Darrick Robinson. <I>Planetary</I> because it's, hands down, the best and most important superhero book on the stands today (and Cassaday and DePuy are both amazing artists). <I>Zot!</I> because, hey, it's <I>Zot!</I> It has a totally unique charm, unmatched before or since. <I>Berlin</i> is touching, subtle, dramatic, and clearly rendered. <I>8-bit Theatre</I> is amazingly creative, and nostalgic for many of us geek kids from the 80s, and <I>Zwol</I>? Well, I mean, come on, it's <I>Zwol</I>!

-Max

[Edited because I'm a moron and forgot to put the "Why?" part in the first time.]

My favorite comic is Mad Magazine. I'm still a subscriber. When I was a kid my goal in life was to work at Mad. I used to visit their office and it was great! I met the artists, got to talk to them, see original art. WOW! Never got there though.

My favorite comic book used to be the Hulk, Daredevil, Groo and Batman. The Hulk is what I refered to in the other thread. It was about ten years since I last bought it, and the story was practically the same as when I left. I also liked Spawn a lot.

Comic strips I liked Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes and Herman. All gone now.

Online PvP and Spongy are the only ones I read with any regularity. I check out Mooloo every once in a while. Lyle hasn't been updating his comics for a while. I guess he's been pretty busy. I look at a lot online, but just don't have the time to read everything. There are a bunch that I look at but don't read because I like the art. Mystic for Hire by Jeff Zugal is well done, digital inkwell and the others that Scott M. touts re all great looking pieces of art. There are others too that I can't remember off the top of my head.

And last I would like to plug my all time favorite artist, the one that made me want to be a cartoonist... Don Martin.

Powers - Great stories and neat art.

Queen and Country - Great Oni Press title about cold warfare.

Transmetropolitan for the reasons stated above.
