For those who missed it, before the regular comic was posted Friday, I had in its place the original pencil version of the strip. You can still see that here. I find this sort of thing interesting, so maybe others to, too. You can see below the drawings the chicken-scratch writing where I work out the exact dialogue for each panel before I start drawing. You can also see in the comic how I mark out roughly where I think the word balloons will go so that I know where to draw the characters. Words and pictures; Pictures and words-- It takes practice to make 'em play together nice.
Thanks to Polymer City Chronicles for placing a link to Zwol in their Strip Search section! The Strip Search concept is so nice, too- You just send Chris Morrison an email asking to be included and he does it, just like that. Same principle as Santa Claus!
Also, don't think I haven't noticed the nice link on the Today's Comic page of Michael McKay-Fleming's Alice Comics either. My thanks to Michael for that!
Now to see about updating my own links section...
For those not familiar, yes, a fast-food restaurant chain called "El Pollo Loco" actually does exist (In California, Nevada, Texas and Arizona, according to their web site). As a native New Yorker, the name just alarms me too much to make me want to eat there, though I've been assured that the food is just fine.
I'm also pleased that I actually have the first legitimate Monday comic in a couple weeks-- Though the deadline may be beating me, I've not lost interest in Zwol and won't be quitting anytime soon. I saw the movie Ghost World yesterday, and it gave me some new energy to keep creating. This movie is based on a comic of the same name by Dan Clowes. Though the movie is a movie and the comic is a comic, I think they share the same spirit. Anybody who enjoyed one, will probably enjoy the other.
Sorry for being so late- I'm ruining whatever reputation I had for timeliness, I realize this, but what I lack in promptitude (that's a word now) I aim to make up for in Zwolliness (yeah, that one, too).
Angelyne is the infamous L.A. billboard queen, famous for billboards of herself. She was quite the fixture for a number of years, but has been absent from the skyline since about 1996 or so. There was a mini-revival of new billboards earlier this year, but they're back to being few and far between these days. That may be good or bad depending on your perspective.
Comic tomorrow.
Ropa just sort of appears in various things as a guest star, so I thought it was time he showed up in Zwol. I'd like to say a big "hi!" to all the Ropa fans linking in from the Ropa fan site! I hope you'll notice how I cleverly managed the twist on Ropa's catch-phrase by not having Ropa himself say it. I hope that's not too far out of bounds.
