The more tech-savvy of you out there probably already know how to do this, but there are ways to keep your web browser from displaying advertisements that don't require special software. Check out this page for how to do it.
This is not a perfect method, and it's only as good as how up-to-date the domains in the hosts file are, but it's not bad.
The part of the Comic Shop owner in Thursday's comic is played by Jeff Daniels.
Today, as suggested yesterday, you can see two completed comics. It is, once again, pretty late and I must sleep now, but I feel better about having posted some stuff. I do not expect to have a comic for Friday, but I think there'll be one for Saturday.
I have no real use for MSN.com, but as I have Hotmail, I see the MSN page each time I log out. As of yesterday, Microsoft changed the format of MSN (to coincide with the launch of Windows XP) and it looks all different now. I'd like to get a screenshot, but on my Win2000 computer running MSIE 6.0 at 1024x768 screen resolution, the fonts are all too small for me to read. Sure, I can set the font size for MSIE to Medium but each time I restart, it defaults back to Smaller, which, to tell the truth, is where I like it. The kicker is this- If you try to access MSN with either of my other two favorite browsers, Mozilla or Opera, then you can't the MSN at all. You get a message telling you that your browser won't render MSN correctly and you need to update to the latest MSIE (screenshot here). How odd, considering that both the Opera and Mozilla teams have gone to great lengths to ensure that their browsers adhere to the strict W3C standards.
Well, Opera has posted a press release regarding this which points out that not only is their browser capable of rendering the page accurately, but that MSN's pages don't valitate to W3C standards. To prove part of their point, they've also posted the press release in XMTL format where Opera (and Mozilla- I checked) renders the page properly, but MSIE simply can't do it (at least, not my version, which is 6.0). I suppose there's irony in the fact that Opera 5.11 also can't display it properly, which explains why their website specifies to compare the output in Opera 5.12 and MSIE.
Anyhow, as I said in the beginning, I am using MSIE and as fas as I'm concerned, MSIE is rendering MSN improperly, so any way you cut it, the MSN site is useless.
As predicted, there's a new comic today which I pretty much like. Tomorrow you'll see a No Contest comic and Monday I should return with a regular Zwol comic.
By the way, I'm not inventing any of the pizza toppings referred to in today's comic.
Gonna do it. Be here.
I don't know- Should there be a comic tomorrow? I liked the one for today up until I scanned it in and saw what it really looked like. There probably should be one for Tuesday, but I'm not sure how I feel about getting one done. I'm tired and I think I'm coming down with something. I also watched "Ed Wood" this weekend and it made me question what I'm doing here. That alone probably wouldn't have been an issue if the next comic I'd drawn had been really very good, but it didn't turn out that way. I'm kind of just rambling at the moment, but that's what this space is for.
Three more comics before #200.
