If you've always wanted to buy a time machine, soon you'll be able to.
So, there I was, in the Barnes & Noble, looking for a book, the title of which I did not know. After a while of walking around the aisles, fruitlessly, I remembered- I have the Internet with me. I have my iPhone. A quick check with Google led me to Amazon, where I discovered that the book I wanted was out of print. I checked with B&N.com now that I had a title, but they didn't have it listed.
I'd like to say that I ordered the book from amazon right there in the store, but I didn't. I waited until later. That would have been the perfect ending to the story though, wouldn't it?
I saw a man in line at Fry's today using his Jesus phone. I became aware of it when the people in line between us started talking about it. One on them then pulled out his probably-free flip phone. Compared to the iPhone, it looks like a plastic Cracker Jack toy. No, really. I am that much of a snob. Hey, if you pay as much for a phone as I did, you're entitled. Back to my fellow Jesus phone freak.
He was listening to music and then he got a call. It made me want to ask him how he likes it so far, but I'm not the sort to accost strangers and ask them about their personal electronic devices. Not yet, anyhow. It won't be long, though, I fear.
Yes, I did post this from my iPhone, which is why there are no links in it. Typing out URLs and HTML with this thing (and not being able to cut and paste) is a major drawback if anyone thinks this device will replace an actual computer. What do you expect from a phone? Miracles?
I haven't seen that many movies this year, but I suspect that even if I had seen more than I have, Ratatouille would still be the best one I've seen so far.
After having one of these things for a week, I'm making my first blog post from my Apple iPhone. It's certainly a very cool device and fun to use. There are things it doesn't do and things if could do better, but over all, I think it's a wonderful piece of hardware. I love my iPod, so time will tell if this new machine becomes as much a part of my daily routine as that one. I feel a little like I'm betraying my faithful iPod by replacing it with the iPhone. Just a little.
