Hi, Shane, I'm surprised that Neil hasn't posted a reply to this yet. :) He's usually all over this stuff. Am I reading correctly that your thesis research topic (to see if an academic subject can be presented in comics form and still communicate the crux of it without ambiguity) is also going to be...

Heh, Greg, you beat me to it. Yes, if only we all had enough moolah to fork over for a Cintiq. *sigh* Perhaps Apple will announce a tablet MacBook on Tuesday...? (Too much to hope.) It would be picky of me to say that I think the book has a couple of minor shortcomings, ... It does, I'm sure, but I'...

I picked it up the day it came out and read it cover-to-cover. (I'm a nerd.) It's good. Scott doesn't go about writing a book on how to draw comics; there are PLENTY of how-to-draw books out there. Nor does he make a book that's how-to-create-a-story; there are plenty of other books on making a stor...

Don't forget livejournal. Livejournal has a pretty crazy thriving community of comickers. Plus, I guess, people can subscribe to your posted comics and comment on them. (If you need links, let me know; I'm in a bit of a rush now, so don't have time to post any.) And speaking of subscribing, putting ...

Masters thesis project on comics generation...

I just finished my MS thesis project at Georgia Tech on writing software to automatically generate comics narrative to summarize wearable computer data: http://idt.gatech.edu/~jalderman/comics/ Hopefully it's not nearly as dry as it sounds, even if it is waaaaaaay long. Thanks much to Scott for his ...

CHI 2006

Scott's giving the closing plenary at the Computer-Human Interaction conference in Montreal this year (CHI 2006) on April 27. . . . Now, that same art form is entering a new infancy on the Web and other digital venues, raising fundamental questions about the reading experience, the functions of stor...

John Pham, Martin Cendreda, Ron Rege show at GR2 on Saturday

I heard that there's a comic art show at Giant Robot on Sawtelle in LA opening on Saturday night (6-10p). John Pham , if you haven't heard of him, is reason enough to go...his storytelling and draftsmanship are phenomenal . If you haven't read his EPOXY anthologies, you really need to either find th...

I'm a big fan of the Wacom as well (have a Graphire) and while it takes about a month to get used to, it almost feels completely natural afterward. Pros to having a tablet? Undo. (haha) Seriously, if you use one for a little while and then switch back to paper (and happen to make as many faux pas as...

Down at the bottom are different pens that can imitate brushes and inking...? I really don't know enough about this, but I'm curious now...although it may be a little cost prohibitive.

Vince, I've got a ~$100 4x5 wacom graphire , and I've been happy with it, but I'm not a trained artist by any stretch and probably couldn't use a brush and REAL INK to save my life. It is however, much better than the old 4x5 wacom ArtPadZ--I don't know if the innards are much improved or the driver...

Sorry, Vince, I think the pressure sensitive tablet is the way of the game for variable line widths...you may be able to hand tweak the lines point-by-point in Illustrator, but it's much easier once you get the hang of the stylus and tablet. (Took me about a month or two.) What kind of tablet are yo...

Vince,

Yes, Illustrator can do this. I'm pretty certain it can, at least...I've got it, but haven't really tooled around with it much.

Animation programs like Moho can do this, too.

I'd pay for it, though...as I'm sure many folks would.
Joey Manley's even trying to negotiate licensing it for WebcomicsNation.

btw I started to checkout your 24hr comic, but when I got to pages with text I quit because the text was too hard to comfortably read. It might not be a bad idea to make your images a bit cleare... Arg. I really need to update that comics page and bury the 24-hour comic as far down as possible*... ...
