By my judgement, the slope between the word balloons in the top panels is steeper then the bottom ones, enough to shift the general order of reading. It's a subjective thing though.

I'm willing to bet 2004 will have even more change then 2003, and 2005 more then 2004, and on and on up to about 2015 or so, when a self-improving artificial intelligence converts the universe into computronium.

RE: Atheism

Someone who imposes his Atheism on someone else is just as bad as some who tries to impose religious dogma on others. It is my experience that any imposing of athiesm is vastly dwarfed by the proselytizing carried out by all major western religions. If you don't want to believe in anything, that's ...

This reminds me of something from K. A. Applegate's Animorphs, where the high-tech aliens were all amazed that humans had created books before the internet. Yes, in the current scheme of things books have many advantages over reading things online. This does not mean books are inherently "better". I...

My thinking is based less on biblical precedents and more on the fact that having a monkey god would allow for more use of a specific word (which I'm not going to mention but I'm sure you all can guess.)

The problem with choose your own adventure stories is that unless the reader goes back through and takes every different set of choices, they miss part of the content. The more branching the story does, the more they'll miss. The problem as I see it is this: Linear stories model the linear structure...

It loads too slow and the comic is all dinky and the people's eyes are too small and you can't click on the comic to advance to the next one and it's boring!

Except for the stairs part. Ho ho!

I think monkeytown is perhaps recieving more then its share of deconstructionary dialog and artistic critisism, eh what? There are other comics in the world to talk about, you know.

Why IS the boiled lobster singing?

That reminds me, you should all go read Fluble, particularly the storyline "Why is the Boiled Lobster Singing", Because it's really good! This should probably go in the hype forum.

I don't really think there's ANY WAY you can connect panels together that "gets rid of" the closure, other then perhaps making them part of the same scene such that it is no longer a comic, and even this would be very difficult to achieve in some cases, even if it was your active intent. Closure mea...

One way you could do it is write say two or three paragraphs that encompass the entire story, then two or three paragraphs about just the first half of the story, then two or three paragraphs about the first half of THAT, and so on untill you're down to detailling out the very first panel. Then of c...

I only have an idea in my head, but I often wish I had something written down. As it goes, I just think about what exactly should happen while I put off drawing the comic, and usually I end up with something I like. But I hope to work with an artist at some point in the future, and they'll need a sc...

I like McCloud's definition fine. While it leaves some gray areas (My own work often falling into these), it leaves them in places that I don't have any real problems with. Jaqeues Derrida took the opinion that a you could never formulate a stable and coherent interpretation of any text. It would ap...
