If you just joke around, someone yells that you're acting like kids and they want a bit of respectable conversation. You start talking craft (and come on, we're not getting over anyone's head here), and someone calls you ivory-tower intellectuals. As if "intellectual" should be a bad word. Pisses me...

The waitress isn't that lovely in branch 1.

When we later examine this comic's length, how are we going to count the panels? Can we double them up like Scrabble?

That's why I love you, Scott McCloud.

The waitress in panel 3 (4?) is lovely. Very nice work.

You know, this is something like the fifth time I've seen Bartleby, the Scrivener refered to on the web this week.

Was it on TV or something?
No, I'm just literate.

Mimi's last coffee

Cute drawing style, and, like Whose Mind, different than Scott's usual ultra-smooth style (the one used so well in UC, RC and Walrus).

I wouldn't at all call it breaking the fourth wall. Writers have made sweeping statements about humankind throughout literary history without being accused of metafiction ("Oh, Bartleby! Oh, humanity!").

You know, I've lent "Blankets" to sixteen people, but I could only get four or five to read "Jimmy Corrigan," which I prefer.

I'm definitely taking the "comics as art form" approach for the poll. MAD Magazine runs great comics and always has. I named them as an example to show that I was referring to all instances of comics. Yeah, if anyone wants to build a better poll, please do. This is just a quickie in response to rece...

I really detest the shapes of eyes. In general.

Today's panel brought to you by the spraypaint tool, the most misused tool but the one that's there in a pinch.

Nice use of it, Scott.

Yeah, if I used a bigger template, I would have used the eye icon. Unfortunately, I'm limited to 80x15 to match the other buttons on my blog (some of which come from the site Greg linked to). Editorials, maybe, but pretty much every newspaper comic falls under "humor." If you just read Prince Valiant and Brenda Starr, then check "other."
