Shadow - it sounds like what you've come up with is pretty much it's own thing, so feel free to spread it around without my say so. If you do want to credit me, just a simple link to a tarquin comic on e-merl would be fine (and flattering). Thanks, I'll put the links in the documentation page and a...

I know it's a bit confusing but there is now three scripts : Click to scroll : it's the one you have, and it's a finished working subset of javascript tarquin engine. javascript tarquin engine : supports evry functionnality of orginal tarquin engine except zooming. Still under developpement to impro...

I think both readers and writers should feel in control. With classic comics, the writer controls the shape of pannels, somehow controlling the relative time feeling that give the pannels. The reader reads at his own rythm and can stop or speed up if he wants and so has control over real time readin...

Coded, but the reading experience felt awfull to me : for long vertical scrolling, you get the feeling that the web page is made of a way too big paper sheet that you have to drag along by physically moving the mouse, drag the damn sheet, then drop it, move over the damn sheet, and redo. Reading bec...

Ala acrobat reader page drag interface in HTML

In acrobat reader, when viewing a page with a zoom making it bigger than the screen, you can drag the page to read it.
A web page containing a big webcomic is in a way a rectangular page bigger than the screen.
I could program the same dragging interface.
Do you think this would be user friendly ?

While it's certainly inspired by Merlin's work it's not the same thing. Just my opinion. I agree that the click scroll is not the same as tarquin, but now I've added pannel handling (by adding an id starting with "pannel_" to an image tag, clicks to that image make the scrolling center to the image...

copy the script in the same directory than your HTML file. In your HTML file, in the head part (beetween <head> and </head>) add <script language="javascript" src="click_to_scroll2.4.js"></script> and when opening the HTML page, you can scoll to any point on the page by clicking on it. I don't remem...

I just tried out the script, and it's very interesting. I'm not sure if "Blip" is the best place for it, because it's sort of meant to be read and scrolled at right angles, but I think it would be really interesting to try something diagonal as you mentioned. Thank you for sharing this with me. :-)...

I'm intrigued by the idea because, prior to hearing this, I haven't really seen any non-Flash scrolling/navigation alternatives (maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough?) I've searched for it a lot before coding it myself. Problem is that screen/mouse coordinates and scrolling coordinates are...

Hi Tyler Sticka, welcome to the forum. I'm glad you're interessed since Blip and Merlin's tarquin engine are the two things that gave me the idea of developping the script. I'm mailing the 2nd version to you and buckbeaver. Please don't put it online yet but I'd love feedback. Note : since the scree...

That would be OK with me, but I'm still waiting for Merlin to tell me how I can give credit to him before releasing the script.
If you want to test it and give feedback, and are OK not to use it online as long as Merlin doesn't respond, I can mail you the script. (3KB)

I agree with Neil that it's a way to communicate, but it's only natural to people who trained themselves to think with images. I'm personally not, so I'm more inclined to express myself in writing. I think most art expressions are ways to try to share some of what the artist is. Fuzzy visual feeling...

- I made an HTML web page in Scott's <table> style so that people without flash can read Mimi's last coffe. - Made another with CSS positionning that looks equivalent to the first, but with images downloaded in the order of their Pannel distance from the first pannel. This way readers are able able ...

Yep, so if it's OK with you, I'll use it for the Horizontal only scrolling demo. The best advantage of the script is the ability to scroll diagonnaly by simply clicking on the page. Do you know if anyone actually used Scott's staircase comic idea? The script would be perfect for reading it. The Blip...

The script is working !!! thanks to the http://www.quirksmode.org/ and http://www.howtocreate.co.uk ressoureces, I finally got a cross plattfom way to handle clicks, mouse coordinates (an ugly mess) and window scrolling. As intended the result is very tarquin like (without pannel specification and z...

It didn't really work on Oshidory and Mermaid so on Ballad I printed the text bigger. I also noticed that reading the pages does brake the mood but I do want to publish as a graphic novel, a format that will suit it much better and, not dealing with jpg compression, easier to read. I will try playi...

Ala tarquin Click auto-scroll interface in HTML

Just a thought : I could write a javascript designed to be simply included in already existing HTML webcomic. It would catch clicks on the document an smoothly scroll to the clicked point (like 20% of the remaining distance evry half second for a nice Rush and slow "Ala tarquin" effect + contant pan...

I agree with William. And there's a strong SCUMM influence in it. The main difference is the "choose your branch" interface that makes it more like a "choose your own adventure book" than a SCUMM game where parallel scenario lines can be advanced independently, giving a greater feeling of freedom to...

If you're worried about png file size, remember to reencode them with a tool like pngout just before uploading: the resulting image is smaller (in KB) and a pixel perfect copy of the original png. For example, getting_started_1_2.png 337 KB-> 267 KB getting_started_1_3.png 253 KB-> 196 KB BTW I can ...
