Kudos Scott, todays entry is great. The fact that Sean says that "He's a good Christian, hardly ever mentions Jesus" is so cool!
The idea that people's religion is communicated through their good works and character other than just what they say all the time is a great truth.

i think you should finally understand, that al of us are brainwashed in a way or the other and that there is always another way to look at certain things. and i woudn't even think, that the chinese particularily hate america. of course china has it's own intrests, which are not the same as the one ...

Nasty Vikings
I've never figured out China. They consider the US the nasty viking, but it's ok to take over Tibet, and keep trying to take back Taiwan. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. At least if we keep them so busy filling our Wal-marts with plastic stuff they wont look for any other countries to "rec...

So Garfield taints your bodily functions with the odor of onions for the next three days? Speak not ill of the holy creation!!....its a taste that stays with me for 3 or for days(less if I get the trots). I remember reading somewhere that OverLord Davis decreed that dialouge produced on the Garfield assembly line should be simple enough so that the humor can be easily translated into other laguages; thus increasing international revenues for the Empire of the Cat. You're right about other languages,...

Muslims would not take your quotes from Genesis as evidence of a trinity, because the Qur'an is seen as GOD setting the record straight. Muslims tend to believe that the Hebrew and Greek texts were corrupted over time, and they think there is pretty good evidence that the Arabic is still pretty clo...

I'm all for the evolution of language according to common usage. But when the meanings have changed to where words have the opposite meanings thats dangerous to the future of our language and literature. As it is now, many of the older english works are becoming lost on current readers. The French f...

You only left one thing out, and this is something that may be obvious to most people, but it took me a while to figure it out: meditation and study nourish the inner life, but loving service - love as a verb - is what makes it all burst into bloom. I was just listening to a sermon on that subject ...

The intellect can't really get to the real essence. GOD, I think, is just a concept - what it refers to, properly at least, is beyond the compass of human thought. The concept of GOD certainly exists, and has a great deal of influence over people's lives. The Reality is something mysterious and inf...

Unfortunately for the history of religion, the level of clarity and creative insight that blossomed durring this period hasn't been high on the agenda of many religious or secular leaders since, compared to the vast majority dedicated to their own positions of influence and power. I just finished w...

I couldn't have said it better, and this isn't the forum for me to say that my views are endorsed by any prophet, messianic figure, or mysterious incarnation of the almighty. That reluctance may change when my daughter is a teenager, understanding that she won't be listening to me anyway; I kind of...

Changing the subject.....
 Ok, changing the subject. There is nothing wrong an organization that maintains a "black" list of entertainers, and companies that do not support their causes. If entertainers and companies deal in the public arena and benefit from publicity, they need to suffer from their actions if they sup...

A quick look though seems to indicate that there are sects of these religions, such as Buddhism, which do include a belief in hell--specifically that one can be reborn into a hell. Here's a link: http://members.tripod.com/~oaproject/religion.html Good link, real informative. It looks like eastern r...

The reason I tend to use the Gandhi example is that it shows us what is humanly possible - I think everyone agrees that Gandhi was thoroughly human. There is very little agreement on the nature and message of Yeshua bar Yosef, even among Christians. Man, you said a mouthful there. As far as his mes...
