Comics for the queer heart - at queertales.com
I sort of randomly surfed to Zwol today, after having been away from the site since probably 2006, and was surprised to find there was still quite a bit of activity here. Anyway, since 2006 I've set up a site of queer comics at http://queertales.com , as well as published a comic book <a href="http:...

Hehe....this thread is getting quite old. :) I've been working in Manga Studio Debut lately. It's made specifically for doing black and white (1 bit) print comics, with lots of screen tones, rotating worksurface (like Painter), layers, airbrush and more. The interface is a lot like Photoshop, so if ...

Uh...yes they do scan comics too, but.... To start with, there are lots of good webcomics available for free, and a good number at a low price. Most of them very convenient. Then, of course, there are those convenient comic book stores where you can buy comics and actually support comics creators. :...

There are several options. The most expensive at around $400 and most complete is probably PainterIX http://apps.corel.com/painterix/home/index.html , it can emulate all kinds of natural media, including pens, pencils, chalks and more. There is a cheaper version of it called Painter Essentials too a...

Check out Elephants Dream http://www.elephantsdream.org it's an "open-source" film made with Blender and some other open-source tools. Shows what can be done with the software. Of course, it takes lots of time and skill too.

Hmmm...been a while since I downloaded the demo of ComicWorks, I bought it and it came with a printed manual. There was an issue with the ruler files, there are some patches available from the left sidebar of their page that you might want to try. That said, their page is a bit unprofessional, so is...

Yep, dowloaded that the other day. Haven't had the time to mess around with it though. It takes kind of a different aproach to modeling than most 3D apps. If you're looking for a good 3D modeling tool that's free, I'd recomend Wings3D http://www.wings3d.com/ . It's open source, free and runs on Wind...

I think the biggest contribution is book format comics. Longer stories, hundreds of pages long. This is resulting in other publishers doing trade paperbacks of their older comics....and hopefully a growth in western straight to bookformat comics too. Manga has also appealed to a much wider audience ...

Mail him about it. His e-mail is at the bottom of the stip, and it's possible to read too. :) There is no reason why he can't make it bigger, at least around 750pixels wide. The lowest resolution you can expect people to have on their computers today is 800x600, and most likely at least 1024x768 or ...

I'm glad to hera you're going for the hardcore, honest version. Personally I would much rather read that than any kind of cleaned up Disney version. The themes and story you're talking about sound very interesting, so be sure to keep us posted on your progress and any eventual publishing date. I'd l...

My new comics site
I've finally gotten around to a huge update on my comics site, like they say. Same shit, new wrapping.
Though there is some new stuff there too, like a new domain name and a brand new and shiny sketchblog. Please visit the site at:

All the Wacom tablets above the graphire have had tilt sensitivity for ages. On the other hand, most sofware don't support this. The one big exception is probably Painter. For instance, with the airbrush you can spray sideways along the paper by tilting the pen. It can also be used to put pens and p...

Thanks for the feedback. Interesting to see totaly opposing oppinions on the sketch blog. I guess it's the kind of thing that doesn't appeal to everybody. Getting repeat traffic to long format comic sites
I'm starting work on a new comic and a new web site. The comics on the site will be mostly long format stand alone stories, 20 pages or more, and not part of a series. Since it takes me a while doing a new comic, I need some incentive for people to check out my site regularly. Some part of the site ...

That sounds about right to me too, but if you can make them even smaller that would be better. For instance, my parents have an internet connection with about max 3kb a second download speed. It would take about 35 seconds to download a 110kb comic on their connection (56k baud modem). Then again th...

I think it's not a problem any more. For instance, I get 120GB of bandwidth a month at Dreamhost paying $10 a month. A comic that's 1mb, would need 120.000 downloads a month for me to go over that. Most online comics are strips, and are much less than 1mb, so you could have much more than 120.000 vi...

Wacoms are great for sketching directly on the computer. I have an A5 one, and find it's about the right size for me. Check out ArtRage at http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html . It's a free drawing software that can emulate pencil and a few other natural media tools, very simple to use. Dogwaff...

I did one that actually was a storyboard, but I just turned it into a comic as I never got around to making it as a film. It can be found here:

It's all rough pencils in same size panels, drawn on small yellow post-it notes.

Micropayments for teens?
Are there any online payment systems that young people who don't have credit cards can use (or anyone else without a credit card for that matter)? Preferebly something that works internationally as well. A lot of teens read comics, and it would be kind of stupid leaving them out as potential custome...
