The one-panel-at-a-time presentation made it a bit tedious for me. Fun, but I got tired of click-read-click-read.

Bailed out at the end of the first episode.

If I'm reading a story for enjoyment I don't want to be distracted by the mechanics. Like, confusing panel layout really kills the buzz. I know there are two flashes of light in the corner of a film at the theater that signal the reel change at the movies, but I don't notice it in most films. I cert...

Foot notes have always pulled me out of the story and hit me over the head with the fact that I'm reading a comic.

Could another character, via dialog, let us know someone is speaking in arabic?

In addition to differences in the character's font....

If somebody told us, it wouldn't be a secret any more. ;)

The path I have heard is write good original stuff, get it made, and get it out.

If it is good stuff, people will want to work with you when you approach them.

Very simple, incredibly complex.

Do you smoke an occasional cigar Rip, or just the one Cuban?

I'm not an expert (maybe I smoke 3 a year), but I really enjoy a Cohiba.

...when visiting either Mexico or Canada.

Yeah.

I think that's a shady cigar shop. Aren't Cuban Cigars still contraban in the US? Don't we have an air-tight embargo in place still?

Reminds me, I need to smoke those Cubans before they dry out....

Not sure, to be honest. Probably a question for the housing folks on campus. Honestly, though, as bad as I made the cab situation sound, that may be the way to go if you are staying on campus. It was pretty affordable to get out for dinner etc. with people pooling for a cab. No parking hassle, no de...

This guy does a decent job of describing layout technique and tips, although the frames-based layout is a bit annoying:

MCAD and Staying on Campus

I wish I was going again. I'm glad Kris posted the number, I was going to have to dig around. Staying on campus was great. Other things I can recommend: MCAD is in a rougher part of town. Nothing alarming, but try to hook up with a group of out-of-towners and travel in packs if you go off campus in ...

Yeah, his "Comics and Sequential Art" does a good job, now that you mention it.

I guess I was wondering if any more resources by the new crop of artists have come out..in the recent crop of "how to comics" things that have hit the market....

Layout Wisdom?

There are books on scriptwriting, character design, penciling, inking, coloring, and lettering. But what about layout? I'm reading a lot of different comics to get a sense. We discussed layout and pacing in Scott's class (now way back in 2002 for me, but he's back at MCAD in August) Commercial inter...

Good / Bad is subjective, but probably a more informative couple of choices. Some old modems still in use had a maximum through-put of 14.4Kbps Then ya have yer 28.8Kbps And then yer 56Kkbps. And...I think you can get some weird non-ISDN 2-phone line 128kbps kinda thing. And probably more... I'd gue...

Unique sessions is the number to watch. Yup, 'hits' are irrelevent unless you are metering your server load or performance. A 'hit' is a file request recieved by the Web server. So, if a page has a .css and 10 images in it, it registers a total of 12 hits: 1 for the html, one for the .css, and 1 for...
