Of course, being on the internet already, there's little excuse for ignorance and I found the message board thread relating this this development and I understand better- It's not that CotC is a financial burden, but a time-sink. I understand and sympathize. With the classy artwork it must be prett...

I'm impressed. :) "Ballad" reminds me of Edward Gorey, with the dark fine-hatched style and Victorian* clothes and surroundings. Personally I like the vertical format; it's working well, and I'm pretty much used to vertical scrolling with large comic pages.

*Or Edwardian? I'm lousy on history.

Not that I think his plan will succeed. His comic is too niche marketed and I'd be surprised if he got taken up on it. Precisely. Not only is his demographic not large enough to attract the newspapers' attention, but they are also probably savvy enough to already read his strip on-line. There's no ...

It sounds a bit like the Modern Tales approach to online webcomic syndication. They let other websites show the latest comics for free, giving them a bit of javascript code that'll display the updating comic on their page. That way, they hopefully get readers who'll subscribe to the Modern Tales sit...

The only thing I could think of would be somebody mistaking the narration boxes for the dialogue of an offscreen character, say a god or some such entity. I'm thinking of One Over Zero in which the artist often talked (or quarreled) with his characters, putting his own speech in oblong boxes. But th...

Retailing printed webcomic books, Comicon discussion

Interesting discussion of how best to sell printed webcomic collections, started by the Modern Tales top-guy. Lots of detail, plus some nice sample comic-pages.

I'd think it would be clear enough, as long as the narration box is clearly different from the speech-balloons. The bone-outline sounds a nice touch, though.

Looks like a wonderful tool. :D A Windows version would be great. I know Mac's the platform of choice for graphics-folk, but... well, let Kurtz say it. (Looks like he's making slow but definite progress towards his goal. ;) ) I've no idea how easy it would be to write, though. It would be a good ide...

Re: Big Page Loading Problems (Grouse alert)

Depending on what browser you are using you could always right click on whatever image isn't showing up and select "Show Picture." Then you don't have to wait for the whole page to load up again. Thanks. :) That's a command I'd overlooked. It should help when it's just a few pictures missing. For v...

For the next update of my site (which will happen sometime in the not to distant future I hope) I'm considering offering each comic as a downloadable .zip file. That way you can decide if you want to browse it screen by screen while online (fine if you have a fast connection), or you can just downl...

Big Page Loading Problems (Grouse alert)

Does anybody find problems downloading big comic pages with large numbers of separate image files? I find very large pages usually come up first time with a dozen missing pictures, and take several refreshes to appear complete. I originally put this down to my old computer, but I find the same thing...

Much thanks for the link. :) That's a great and unsettling book, and I won't forget it in a hurry. I'm very glad indeed the problem was sorted out, and I hope his eyes stay good. Angle-brackets sound right to me too. I think it depends on context, and whether you'd be expecting the person to be speaking a different language from the others. In a scene of captured American WWII airmen, say, two guards could be <chatting together> and you'd know the brackets meant German speech.
