One of the makers, T Campbell, has blogged a good piece about his reasons for making it and why he think's it's important. It's worth reading.

The Sulfurstar shines online

A great seasonal bit of comic news: Rick Smith and Tania Menesse are putting their Shuck comic series on the web.

Well, it's been ten months since I posted this. I'm just wondering if any new competitor has come onto the market. Possibly a set-up like a drafting table? :D The Wacom Cintiq is the only draw-on-the-screen one I've heard about. Scott McCloud swears by it. Costs about $3000, though. It's possible t...

Bateman365

Another impressive entry in the feats-of-cartoon-endurance category: Cartoonist and animator Scott Bateman is making an animated short movie a day for a year. He's on day 54, so 311 to go.

Charleston City Paper article (MI blog 8/24)

That's a pretty neat article (even if it does have gratuitous spiky Biff!Pow! bubbles  ). But I can't see any mention of online comics or the Net anywhere.

That looks pretty interesting. :)

It would be nice if you could pan across an image so you could have frames wider than the screen, but that might have to wait for the video iPod they mentioned.

"The Stiff" archives free

Thanks for the head-up. That's a comic I've been meaning to check out for some time. The archives of Digger and The Tenth Life of Pishio the Cat are also free for the moment, and they're well worth a few hours of eye-gluttony. :D

Update: Magellan and Narbonic too.

I love that comic. :D Be interesting to see if the story threads tie up, or if they go on running parallel. And some of that quoted info is fascinating. Not sure I'm so keen on the "newest entry at the top" format, though: I'm used to it in blogs, but it still feels a bit awkward for comics.

I like it. It's a lot of fun, and I think it's developing nicely. I loved the sequence with the spy.

I think it would be better to have the full-size latest comic on the main page: at the moment it's just showing a small "thumbnail" picture of it.

Seems pretty good to me. :D The story's moving nicely, and I love the art - I was particularly taken by the cityscape at the start of chapter 2.

It might be a good idea to move the character-description pages from the archive into a "Cast" section of their own, linked from the main page.

Re: as eclectic as it gets

I mean, the lucky few of us in Argentina that can be into comics are readers of North AND South American Comics, Manga, Band Desinee, italian and spanish comics, etc. The lucky few people of the United States who are into comics are mostly aware only of north american comics and some manga. Are the...

Actually, I think the slideshow's not a bad idea in itself; it's just that at the moment you don't have any choice over whether it runs or not. It would be a nice feature if it had an on/off switch, set to "off" when the page first loads. The present timing's okay for me, though I'm using dial-up so...

Looks great. :)

The small images in the side frame are a great idea. I'm not so keen personally on the automatic picture change; I think the visitors should be allowed to decide themselves when to move on. It would be okay if there was somewhere you could click to turn it off or on.

The whole foofaraw about "literally" and "figuratively" brings to mind one of the many "Radlein's Law"s I've coined in my time in a cheap bid for fame: Eventually, all adjectives will be used to mean "good" or "bad" (including "good" and "bad" themselves), and all adverbs will be used to mean "very...

Still seems pretty good to me. The bit on cross-hatching ( no. 3 ) doesn't stand up too well now - Deadmouse's lovingly-hatched Ballad looks good on a decent modern monitor. As Ballad shows, there can be good artistic reasons for staying with hatching: tone would definitely not have the same feel in...

Try taking some figure drawing classes. The best way to get in tune with drawing the human figure is to draw live models on a consitant basis. It's better than anything you can get out of a book. That's probably what I need. :) I own: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0966638352/qid=1107818247...

Figure construction

I'm constantly trying to find an approach to figure construction that I'm comfortable with. Every book and tutorial seems to have a different angle: some go for simple skeletons, some for "robot" figures made of cubes and cylinders etc. I'm curious as to what approach other people prefer.

Great stuff. :D The reviewer on the Amazon site might have a point: a fully hard-disk loadable version would be more convenient for a laptop user. I don't know much about the technical or anti-piracy issues you'd have with that, though.
