comixpress.com: low print runs, low budget printing...
Has anyone seen http://www.comixpress.com/ ?? It looks pretty cool. They offer a low cost, low run indie press printing/distribution/sales service. They sell comics online as well as ship them wherever you want (you pay the shipping cost, I think). They take a percent of comics they sell on their si...

hmmm... ok, I read through the portion on using copyrighted material in the FAQ section, which led me to the "fair use" page. Interesting. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is said about the world of novels, movies, and comics. Which got me thinking... It's no surprise that comics aren't included, but wh...

Why is okay for a famous painter to use photo reference, but not a comic book artist??? ...yeah, that is weird, come to think of it. Weird. And all this time, I was trapped by good old Stan Lee and John Buscuma's "How to Draw Marvel the Comics Way" or whatever. I wonder if the whole not using photo...

can that "whoopass girls" be seen on the net somewhere? those lines are just way to clean to be inked... if I were the one doing the inking, that is!! I love my inking style, but it is not clean. Or, rather, it is, but all the lines are wavy (here is what I mean: http://www.vince-coleman.com/bastart...

I see no problem with using photoreference, drawing from life is not allways practical. Drawing from life is cool too. I know it takes a lot of drawing from life to get to the point where drawing from photo reference is even an option. But even drawing from life was "cheating" for me in the way I u...

wow, that corbis thing is pretty cool. an artist's dream. Yeah, the watermarks are no real setback if you just want to sit in front of the screen and draw what you see... I have to say, though, the more I think about it, the more in love with DVDs I am. Now is this horrible? Basing a character's fac...

photo reference
recently I have discovered the awesomeness of using photo reference in my work. A while ago... maybe about 5-6 months ago, I tried using photo reference for the poses of the character "Fistonica" in a one shot comic: "Team Imagikon" (http://www.vince-coleman.com/teamimagikon.html ... you have to scr...

sounds cool. I am going to try it out later. Whee. Too bad the final line isn't a vector graphic, but it sounds cool anyhow. So.... I tried to look at your example but I couldn't open it... but I'll just go to your site and check out other stuff... ---- Wait, I was able to access it. Weird. The brow...

thanks! by the way, about the portfolip: the designs for the book covers and stuff are dorky. I know. I spent most of my time on the illustrations, and just whipped up some stupid book cover illustrations really quickly. After I am done with all of the illustrations I'm going to go back and do cool ...

i like the term "hummed and hawed"..... i imagine you sitting on a chair in some dusty old room, maybe a rocking chair, hunched over, with your chin resting on a slightly clenched fist, and going "hummmmmm...... hawwwwwwww" in a really low voice, but not quite a whisper. OK, down to business. Seems ...

ok, I figured out how to get the effect perfectly on Flash. The problem is, it takes WAY too much time. So I have abandoned it for now and gone back to hand inking for the time being. Until I find a faster way to do it, that is. I might try again. We just got Illustrator, so I'll install that and se...

Head #8 (print comic)
I hope no one thinks the lesser of me, but I wound up getting a short comic story published. A 4 page debut in "HEAD #8" , from Eros comics, should be in stores in July. You can order a copy directly from the publisher at: http://www.eroscomix.com/ I'm sure any good online comics shop can get you a ...

yeah. you know how schuster and seigle or whatever their names were actually physically cut up their first superman comic and rearanged it in desperation after getting rejected tons of times, and then it got accepted? Or so the legend goes. Anyhow, nothing's sacred. If you have something you want to...
