But yeah yer right. I personally, between those two duels, dug the second Vader v. Luke duel. Luke was a bit less whiny during it and Vader played with Luke's head really cool too I thought. Yep, It's the best psychologically, though I'm eager to see the new ones. Was a bit disappointed by the shor...

It would be an improvement to use linking lines only when they're really necessary,. When two rectangles are so close together you get a standard "gutter anyway, why not drop the linking lines? There couldd even be room for a type of less "dominating" linking line, as the traditional ScottMcCloud Li...

How to edit topic?
Greetings to all moderators, I started a topic a while ago, but typed a topic which was waaaaay too long ("Eisner & Alternatives to make online comics go mai(nstream in Europe)") Could it be possible to change this topic to "Alternative to Eisner Awards"? This way it says what it's about  I ho...

I remember when my eyes first opened to the possibilities of comics as an emotionally intense experience, when I read one of the first "Soda" albums (Tome & Gazzotti) in "Spirou magazine", a comics magazine. I must have been ten, or younger... Soda is about a cop in NYC, "SOlomon DAvid", living with...

I've been looking into it, and have taken the first tome of "L'Art de la BD", ("The Art of Comics", a two-tome book on how to write comics, by a French comic artist (Duc). It's been really useful to uncover some of the principles of how comics work. (I'm still looking for tome two, though, which is a...

Actually, what's great in online comics is the way to make comics an art like everything else! Let me explain: I know several guys and gals who are into an artform on an amateur basis. Music (amateur bands, or just playing the guitar at summer camp, etc...), Painting (at a local evening class, or ju...

The one sentence per page routine should be a good average I guess, as you can still have a reasonable control on the pace, and still have an overall view. When I detail too much myself, even in short stories, i tend to slow the story down, while if I set myself a limit of things to tell per page, a...

As for using role-playing games to generate characters. Find one with lots of personality traits (GURPS is a good example) Yup! Also great when dealing with psychologically disturbed characters, is the mental illness chart from "Call of Cthulhu". A RPG master I knew, used to use those charts but us...

I've never actually finished a long story before, but I'm working on it. Best is to start with a general synopsis and then to flesh out parts of the story as you draw them (make it rather big blocks though). That way you still won't have the problem of having to work through an entire story drawing ...

Voil?! My first one-hour comic, my second comic online, and my first comic done exclusively in Illustrator. It took me one hour and 5 minutes actually (5 minutes for the text), and it took me about half an hour to figure out how to get it on the net (as I'm still rather new  ) It isn't as good...

LotR is the best made movie ever! NOT because it is the best movie experience evr, but because... a) Special effect are there to tell a story, that's it. b) Special effects are NOT in-your-face, and let you believe things you would have trouble with otherwise (they make hobbits believable, even thou...

Conquer the world it is!
Why settle for Europe, whe you could conquer the world? You're right, I won't make the mistake to keep my view too limited. You've got some real great artists by the way (Zep is from Quebec, and I've heard Zone Convective is great for its (french-language) alternative comics) I'll try to check out ...

Where does money GO?
...in France, the cost of a print comic album lies between 7. 93 EURO and 12. 50 EURO. Let's say around 10. 21 EURO. Of these 10. 21 EURO, money is spent as follows... (I'm taking Scott's way of explaining things): Comic book stores: 40% Delivery/Distribution: 15% Actual Printing: 17% Editor (which ...

Fleshing out characters
Cool addition! I especially like the idea of different worldviews and outlooks confronting each other. (1st-century Rome may be a barbaric place to one person, while it may be a world turning around personal pleasure to another, for instance) When fleshing out characters, it can be very fune and use...

I think it's great you showed up to defend yourself, Johnnystorm :D It's actually the thing the industry of online comics needs: cross-culture contact between what's happening at both ends of the economic scale: The "Big Bears" (am still calling them Big Bears), as much as the smaller indy companies...
