I'm going to have to read issue one again because it was really late when I read it and I might not be appreciating it properly, but right now I can't shake the feeling that this is could be an example of how coloring can make or break a comic.
DKR: Brilliant coloring; brilliant book.
DK2: Huh? What? Jury's still out; story may yet save it.

I was surprised at how poor the artwork was on Dark Knight 2. Frank Miller has been listed as one of the 10 most influential artists of all time, right up there with Jack Kirby and Alex Raymond, but one look at Dark Knight 2 and you'd never guess that to be the case.
The writing is actually pretty good. The Atom and the Flash were put in situations that I've never seen before. If Miller is capable of better artwork than DK2, I just wonder why he dumbs down his work with sub-standard techniques.
