Looks great. What software/tool did you use to make those lines?

I should be resting, but I just couldn't stay away. Ideas just kept running through my head and I couldn't sleep until I did something. Not exactly sure what I did, but hey, I'm down with a flu, so there you have it...

Now maybe I can get some sleep so I can wake up early and go to the hospital so the drug dealer there can prescribe me some drugs... I used to be all critical of the pharmasutical (sp?) industry's link with hospitals and doctors, but now I'm all about getting doped up on some meds!

Mullets rule.
Bill, I seriously dig the mullet. (That comic made me laugh out loud.) Vince--get better soon!
No comic this week, but another ol' office doodle from a meeting. This time, I had Dave Matthews, bowling, and bad Korean transliterations on the brain.

Late this week, due to technical difficulties. I deleted the file after I finished it...

After a two week absence, I have drawn another One-Hour-Comic. I have to admit that I went over my time so it was closer to one hour and fifthteen minutes. Sorry, but frankly the quality is worth it. I am very happy because this is the first comic where I took advantage of the web's infinate canvas. Sure it is only horizontal, but it is my first time. I hope you enjoy it.

Umm... I'm here because of japanimationfist and was wondering a coupla things...
First, do the one hour comics have to be digital?
And secondly, when/where are the topics for the week posted?
When do I start?
Sorry, but this is a super long thread. I'll be going through it to see the ones I've missed, I was just hoping for a quicker-type response.
thanks!

Here are answers based upon my observation of this forum thread:
1) The comics do not have to be digital.
2) There don't seem to be any weekly topics, though if someone wants to propose a topic and other people want to draw something on that topic that is ok.
3) We are setting Sunday as our general comic posting day, but really any day is fine. After you put your comic up online, just leave a note here that you have done so, preferably with a link.
Hope to see yours soon!!

Wow! I take a weekend off, and look what happens!?
David, your comic great! You have to tell me how you got the side scrolling canvas at such a decent file size.
Chris, welcome aboard! It's good to have another with us!
Ben!? What can I say? You are thorough as anything. Thank you for putting things together. That's terrific!
I will try to do one this week at some point, but I decided to take the weekend off and concentrate on the graphic novel project (some of my panesl really suck right now... If I have time ebfore the end of the month I may do some pages over again).
Catch y'all soon.

Thank you. I wrote the poem a while ago and when you did that water one-hour it inspired me that I should do an artistic comic like that.japanimationfist wrote:David, your comic great! You have to tell me how you got the side scrolling canvas at such a decent file size.
The comic is 40 inches wide, but only 2.5 inches high and only 198k. I drew it in Photoshop and saved it as a .gif which I have learned will lower the image file size. By choosing Index color instead of RGB you lower the amount of colors from thousands to 216.
Good luck on your graphic novel, Bill!

While gif files are supposed to be smaller, I've noticed that in some rare cases a jpg file is actually smaller and downloads faster. I have no idea why this is.
When I save my files for the internet, I always use the save files for web option in Photoshop (I don't know the real English name of this option since I am using a Japanese language version of Photoshop, but it is the option after "save with name" in the file menu).
This option always shows the file size and projected download time (based on what kind of internet connection I do not know) for each file saved. Most of the time gif files are smaller, but in some cases the jpg files were smaller when saved at standard quality (highest quality sometimes was bigger than the gif file size). Who knows why?
Anyhow, the indexed color thing is definitely the way to go. I think that the save to web or save for the web option automatically indexes the colors when using gif files. It even gives a little chart showing what colors are being used. But I think you can also opt for including the full rgb gamut of colors, though I have no idea why you would want to do this...

Robot!!! ARRR!!!
My latest: http://www.contretemps.net/archives/200 ... 11202.html
I think that I am finding it increasingly difficult to stick to the one-hour limitation. I'm not really sure I much care, though, since the point for me is to get me drawing comics... Anyway, this one is about a robot.

As I said, it's time to get the lead out. I'm getting down to business in just a few minutes. I'll be back in a little over an hour with more one hour wackiness. In the meantime, if you happen to check in, you can check out what I did in 2 and a half hours yesterday here
I'll be back.
I'll be back.

Thanks Ben, and now I am back with my latest, inspired by your monster rampage last week (though it's a little more fluffy).

Cool. I was expecting a different endiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.
I just finished my so-called one-hour comic too. It's "so-called" because while I drew it between 3:30 and 4:00AM (pencil) and 7:00 and 7:30 AM (ink), I still have to scan it, and I'm going to spend probably a couple of hours coloring and stitching it together. (and don't think there won't also be some post-production touching up... )
I like to think of it as being like the Dogme95 filmmakers, who have moved further and further from their manifesto as the years and films go by. Otherwise, I'd have to think of it as cheating
I should have it posted some time tomorrow, after I get done working for the week.

I'm good with that Ben. I think that we can play around with the format... we're making up our own rules after all. The spirit is what counts. I just think that it's great that we get together like this and make comics for no other reason than to get together and make comics
To be honest, I wouldn't mind taking my comics from this week a bit further... I had something else in mind, but had other stuff I wanted to do this morning. Maybe I'll go back to it this week (yeah, right).

As Mac has canceled their free homepages, I'm working on a site of my own where I will post my artwork "regularly" (hemm...hem...)
So for now you only have to thank God for coffee...
(Still a nice title, though )
