Some thoughts on the infinite canvas

Post by P.D. »

This little story came to me in a flash one morning last November, but it has taken me a while to get around to drawing it. Comments are appreciated. It's rather likely that someone else has already done something like this, so that's fair criticism if it's so.

What if he'd been hammering on a typewriter...? Good idea! :D But the copyeditor's going to charge you a mint.

I really liked the infinite second page. It really just goes on, doesn't it? I don't know if anybody's done anything quite like that, yet, but it's a great idea. Plus, of course, it's entirely germane to the comic itself, making the comic all the better.
Good morning! That's a nice tnetennba.

Yup. it goes on and on:

http://www.fecundity.com/pmagnus/canvas ... 9999999999

and also in the negative direction:
http://www.fecundity.com/pmagnus/canvas ... age=-99999

and even as an alphanumeric sequence:
http://www.fecundity.com/pmagnus/canvas ... 4v5y3tgbq4

Why, it's almost as if someone set it up so no matter what the parameter was it would always go to the same page. ;-)

But anyways, some interesting thought in there. I like it.

    How do it work?

Actually, it seems that only the first digit of the search string [?###?] is recognized. Thus page=666 links next to page=7, not page=667. A non-numeric character will link back to page=3.

Hmmm, a monkey on a typewrtier. Reminds me of an Asimov story I once read.

It's a fair cop-- the original script was not as thorough as it ought have been. I've fixed it up a bit, so that
    http://www.fecundity.com/pmagnus/canvas ... l?page=734
gives you a link to 735 and
    http://www.fecundity.com/pmagnus/canvas ... he_curtain
    does something suitable broken.

Thanks for the compliments, and also for prodding the script mercilessly. ;-)
