Because I've been using 'buzzard' as a username on the Internet for more than ten years, I tend to select it by default, rather than typing, say, my real name. However, my real name isn't supposed to be a secret either, but the ZWOL forum profile doesn't allow specifying the real name. One might even show it below the username if one implemented it.
I'm not sure what's normal at other forums, though.

Not a bad idea. Some people use their real names as their ID, but many don't. I'm waiting on phpBB version 2 to be ready before I make too many more changes to the forum, because anything I do now, I'll have to replicate later. Version 2 looks pretty good so far.
However, this feature I might be able to add sooner than that.
