News about webcomics finally has a home on the net. Comixpedia, an online magazine and news portal for web-based comic publications, launches on Monday, February 3, 2003 with its first issue at comixpedia.com.
"The challenge was issued by the webcomics community itself," says Editor-In-Chief Damonk. "Having grown in terms of both size and exposure, readers and creators were screaming for a centralized hub from which to exchange information and contacts, to learn more about the events and exploits inside our blossoming community, to foster and promote a healthy awareness and image of webcomics to those outside. Comixpedia was created with all of those needs in mind, and so much more."
Every week, Comixpedia presents interviews with leading artists and personalities of the emerging webcomics scene, reviews popular and experimental comics published in webcomic format, and features articles analyzing issues and ideas concerning all aspects of webcomics, including art, format, business and the tools of the trade. Comixpedia?s website also features a regularly updated news portal of interest to webcomic creators and fans alike.
"The interviews are really about capturing the people in the webcomics community," said Executive Editor Leah Fitzgerald. "The news comes from somewhere and we think our readership wants to know more about the people behind the comics."
The February issue features interviews with artists James Kochalka and Cat Garza, reviews of work by Shaenon Garity and Jason Shiga, and articles and commentary from our talented roster of contributors including: T Campbell (Fans), Box Jam (BoxJam?s Doodle), Damonk (Framed), Michael McKay-Fleming (Alice) and Iain Hamp (Darwin?s Complex).
"Webcomics are a new form of art," adds Campbell. "Nobody really knows what they can do. Comixpedia is here to help figure that out."
Every month, Comixpedia presents cover art and illustrations from leading practitioners of the webcomics community. February?s cover comes from Cat Garza, whose work includes comics such as Magic Inkwell Comic Strip Theatre and Cuentos de la Frontera.

And that's only the first week. We've got one feature, a major interview, and several more reviews every week this month, and from what I can tell from next month's assignments you can expect more of the same.
My interview with Cat goes up next wekk. Cat Rocks.
