I would have to go with Pure Guava. It is all over the place and wonderful. Chocolate and Cheese is also great. A little more slick. Probably I am attached to Pure Guava as it was my first Ween. Sniff. We had some good times together.

Wahoo I brought Pure Guava with me today! All right...

man- i don't know if ween ever put out a bad one...lol. the only thing that probably falls in the catagory of 'for hardcore fans only' is there very first album 'The Pod.' It was recorded on a 4-track and to quote one critic 'Ween's the Pod makes you think either the Cc is playing too slow or you been living your life way too fast...' anyways- it's available through elektra... but if your looking for something to buy next that's not quite as... ummm.... wierd...lol.. White Pepper is a good one. A little more serious than usual- but pretty cool. Pure Guava is great. I agree when it comes to Chocolate and Cheese- it's good but slicker in production... though not in the normal way- it was recorded in the living room of the guy who plays bass for the Henry Rollins band. it's only real fault is that i think they spent too much time trying to clean it up and make it sound like a big studio album. But alas- I'm rambling. In short I think Pure Guava and White Pepper are the next places to go. lol.

It's funny what the critic wrote about the Pod sounding like it is on the wrong speed, as when I was first listening to it, my friend had it on vinyl and since it was four sides with no names, and no indication of speed, we were extremely confused and thought possibly different sides had different speeds... and actually a lot of the songs did work at 45 as well as 33! Much more upbeat sounding that way actually. Yah I like the Pod a lot too.
Not so crazy about White Pepper. I like a lot of songs on it, but somehow I've just never bonded with it the same.

I really liked Chocoloate & Cheese and White Pepper.

first album
"their very first album 'The Pod.'"
- no, the first album with a major release was the incredible 'God Ween Satan' but if you want to get technical their first was Synthetic Socks (1987).
The best is far and away 'The Mollusk'.
