Completed stories needed for published Anthology

Post by Bocasean »

We are in need of completed short stories from other creative teams who would like to have their stories put into a printed anthology we can then promote, sell to readers, and provide to publishers/editors. The deadline isn't until the end of this summer, but in order to be considered for inclusion you will have to email us a page or two of the art quality that will accompany your story, along with a script, at some point in the next few months.

Personally, my contribution will be three short stories finished by the end of the summer, in preparation for a holiday season release. I would like them to be a part of a larger anthology book for charity, so I need more finished short stories from other creative teams. Ideally, the finished product will have 8-15 short stories contained in one book, giving all of us a great total piece to promote to readers. You will retain ownership of all stories and will be able to use the visibility of the anthology to then promote longer finished versions of your short stories after it's released.

If you've got your own short story that's ready to go (or will be in a few months), please let me know and we can share the cost and increase our visibility by offering a large anthology for readers. Deadline is September 1st, so we'll have plenty of time to put something of professional quality together. It's expensive to do things well, so splitting the costs up among many teams is the way to go!

As of right now, we've got my 3 stories (with 3 different artists), 2 stories from another writer/artist teams, 1 story for another team, and at least 3 more potential teams who have expressed legit interest. I've attached a montage picture that shows the quality of the artists involved, so that you all can see that this will be a polished, professional TPB that you'd be proud to attach your story to.

Your samples look really great!

What is the theme of this anthology? And what is the page length of stories you are looking for?

Thanks! I can't take credit for the artists' skill, only for the stories and for bringing them all together. They did the hard stuff!

As for the theme of the anthology, the only real central tenet is that it's a "New Creator Showcase" kind of book, so every creative team should be up-and-coming or undiscovered. Other than that, it can be any genre, any story, and any theme. No porn.

Everyone who has been voted into the collective can - and will - then vote on the prospective creative teams who wish to join in. We do this to assure the overall quality of the book, as a BAD anthology can do as much to hinder your career as a good one can improve it. We are noobs, but we want to be polished, professional noobs with a quality finished product, and we give our creators the right to choose who shares the binding with them.

Story lengths vary. Personally, I will have a 10-page, 8-page, and 18-page story. All that we ask is that your story(s) are self-contained and complete in and of themselves, even if they are only the introductions to a later full-length story. So, basically, if you do 6 pages, make sure it's a complete scene. If it takes 10 pages to complete a coherent scene with a beginning, middle, and end, so be it.

It doesn't have to explain the entire book...in fact, you might not even want it to. You want the readers to reach the end of the first scene and want more. That's the key to utilizing the power of the anthology: Use it to build a reader base that you can then sell to with crowdfunding efforts at a later date. You do that by providing value with your introductory short story, which will entice them to follow you in social media, at conventions, etc.

Which brings up the last point: All creative teams in the anthology will have bio pages with complete details on any websites, contact info, social media presence, etc. The anthology will be a great, professional stand alone book for a worthy cause, but the true key to it will be using the value we provide our readers as a springboard to prolonged success.

Hello,

This seems very interesting and I would like to jump on board if there's still room! I have a completed 12 page story that I wrote, with art and letters done by Aimee Helsper. It's a short horror story.

I would be glad to send it to you for evaluation. My previous comic book experience is a short picked up by Vivifica Studios and then the first issue for a 13 issue miniseries called AntiChris which is published by Coast Comics and is on sale here: http://www.indyplanet.com/front/?product=120236

My email is jojokuk@yahoo.com, feel free to email me as I am very interested and would love to send you what we have. Thank you for your time and I look forward to talking to you! Best of luck!

Hi! This sounds interesting, and the examples you posted are intriguing and professional.

Would you be interested also in fantasy/fairy tales stories? I have a short story I wrote (which I still have to turn into a script) that I'd like to realize in the following months, and this could be a nice incentive to do it.

I have been published before as a complete author, though, and I normally work as a comic book artist. Would that be against your "up-and-coming or undiscovered" requirement? You can find a list of my comics here http://cecilialart.blogspot.it/p/portfolio.html and my dA gallery is http://cabepfir.deviantart.com/.

If interested, you can contact me at cabepfir[at]yahoo.it . Thanks!

My name is Jay Cornwell and I have a passion for creating comics. I'm already a published artist and handled many parts of the field like writing, penciling, inking, and even editing for independent companies. I have an unused 8-page viking story that would bring your anthology more diversity. My contact e-mail is starman853@gmail.com

Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope to hear from you soon.

I forwarded everyone's info to the rest of the Anthology creators and/or contacted those of you without a link to your work.

I truly appreciate the interest! Thank you again.

We got another story added to the Anthology. Here's a picture of one of the pages from The Black Hand

Image

That gives us a total of 6 stories in the Anthology so far, for certain, with another 3-4 tentatively scheduled stories awaiting completion. The stories will be:

NUMB
The Black Hand
Little Orphan Angry
Hell's Janitor
Cain & Abel: Dinosaur Hunters
Lily the Traveler
Plus, 3-4 more titles already in the works....

We're still looking for another 2-8 stories. If you've got an opening scene ready to go, let us know!

The book will be titled Giant-Size First Appearance Special and done with a vintage Bronze Age cover style.

Still have room for another story or two if a creative team wants in.

I have a story I'd love to submit, it is long about 40 pages, I hope that's ok. It's about a detective trying to solve a murder of a high profile actor. The kick is he hallucinates a cartoon cheetah from his childhood. One who cracks jokes and helps him on his cases. If you'd like more info email me at woochmeister89@gmail.com. Thanks and I have some pages finished as with the script too.
