looking for artists and writers (alternative compensation)

Post by taalaka »

I am looking for artist at the moment to help create and re-imagine characters for a comic book company I am currently starting. I am also looking for writers as well, but at the moment artist are the priority. If you are a writer and have some ideas that you think would work for superhero characters I would love to have you on the team.

Compensation at the moment in terms of liquid cash isn't something I have at the moment. But I have three other forms of compensation if anyone is interested. the first is 50% ownership of the character in the company. The second is stock options and the third is quid pro quo meaning you help create the characters and/or write the stories and the company will help you develop and publish your work for free. feel free to ask any questions. Thank you for your time and have a nice day.

I'm a writer

Post by SalvadorComics »

Hey!

I'm a one time graphic novel writer from Norway. I wrote a book called "In Darkness" illustrated by a friend of mine. when it came out it got superb reviews here in Norway, especially when it came to the writing. I've been working on a series about a masked vigilante duo, turned superheros after some unfortunate events, that is more in the darker side of storytelling (Punisher, deadpool, daredevil ) that id love to write and just get out into the public. I'm not big on money and I don't care if I get rich on it. I just want to write and create something unique and entertaining that brings joy to people.

I'd love to hear more about your project and would love to get involved!

Writer in Need of Artist

Post by sgrogan »

Hi there,

I am a writer in desperate need of an artist for a long-running comic. I would be interested in the "quid pro quo" option...as I can't afford most artist fees.

Superheroes

Post by Ruyei »

I...find it somewhat surprising that companies still open with a focus on superhero comics. I like to think they're on the way out (But I personally don't like superheroes).

Anyway, what sets your comics apart from the competition?

Thanks for the replies, atleast I am getting some. I am trying to expand my search beyond just reddit and zwol. If anyone has any suggestions on where I should post my topic I would really appreciate it. I would also like to have a place where people can just enter and we can have a live discussion. I am debating right now on whether to use IRC or twitter, any suggestions would again be appreciated. Thank you for your interest and time and I look forward to speaking with you all.

Zhoudani if you would like to have a private discussion with me PM me with any questions you have. If you prefer to have the discussion through e-mail then you can PM me your e-mail. thank you for your interest.

Ruyei you might have a point, but you cant argue with Marvel and DC market share in the american market. Independent is definitely growing, but marvel and DC still have a dominant market share even with increased competition. To your question "what sets your comics apart from the competition? " I think that depends on which competitor you are talking about. It would be a pretty long post to try and explain all the differences. All I can say here is that I have been bored with a lot of the comics that I have seen on the shelves and I think there is a lot to explore as far as comic book stories and characters go that I would like to get a chance to co-create/co-develop. IF you would like a more detailed and specific answer PM me.

steve I will definitely reach out to you once I find some artist. remember I need some suggestions on where to look.

salvadorcomics, I am looking for a platform to use for a live discussion and if you have a preference or suggestion on what to use I am open to it. PM me and I look forward to hearing from you .

Sounds very open-ended which always gets my creativity going. I have a super diverse background so there is not much I haven't written about. I would be interested in working for 50% stock in a character.

My question would be: Who is your target audience?

Anyway, I would love to be part of the team. PM me!

chat room before video chat

Post by taalaka »

I am glad to see increased interest in this, thanks for the replies. I wanted to add in this post that I have created an IRC web chat room for anyone who has any questions they want to ask whether it be about the what will set our comics apart from the rest or more details on how compensation will work or is guaranteed. Any questions that you have about the company I would love to hear. While I am thankful for the interest in the company anyone who has constructive criticism or words of warning are also welcomed to express them. I know this wont be a walk in the park, but as they say nothing ventured nothing gained.

The website is https://kiwiirc.com/.
click the try me button.
enter your nickname in the display box
enter #comiccompany in the channel display box
press start

I plan on keeping the chat room as long as possible. I am not sure if the chat room will stay open if I leave the chat room and people are still in, but we will find out as we go along. If it does close then I will just update the the thread with the new chat room.

salvadorcomics we have a chat room now, hope to see you there.

Phani I would love to see the superhero perspective from an indian background and I am sure people would love to bounce some ideas off of you about what that might look like. If you speak at least one of the many indian languages even better.

FunFactorIsEssentialsHere glad to hear from you, as you can see we need some artist. If you would like to PM me and ask your questions or PM me your e-mail if you prefer to use e-mail. You could also join the chat room and ask your questions.

Nipherdil the short answer is I dont really have a target audience, nor do I believe in trying to serve a certain demographic. I think the comic, the characters and the stories should speak for themselves and you either like it or you don't. look out for PM for a little bit more details and hopefully we can talk further in the chat room.

Thank you for all your replies, and i hope to see more people in the chat room. Thank you for your time and have a nice day.
