Writer seeking Artist for fantasy comic!

Post by mdevillar »

Gonna jump right in to it so that I only waste some of your time, and not a bunch of it.

I'm currently looking for an artist for a fantasy comic. The story centers around a monster hunter for hire that when possible, tries to find peaceful resolution to situations rather than just lopping heads and getting coin. The idea is to start the story with shorts and one offs to build the world and characters, while sending our hero (and company) on adventures that are a bit more slice of life, than grand sweeping adventures. That last bit would come much later if the project sticks around. The idea is to capture a bit of that sweeping adventure from somewhat small roots that a lot of JRPG's from the 90's had to them.

Super vague, I know. But here's a script relating to the whole idea if you wanna give that a read and get a better feel for what I'm going for: http://mdevillar.tumblr.com/post/121841 ... er-slaying

So, what am I looking for art wise? Well, going with that 90's JRPG inspiration, that is somewhat the basis. Specifics would be games like Breath of Fire III and IV, the series Record of the Lodoss War, Lunar, Brigandine, and like, a dozen other games. If need be, I can provide a sort of visual guide/bible thing if you're interested, but have no idea what the hell I am talking about.

Now, business stuff. While I have some money set aside for this project, it's not a ton. I'm willing to negotiate on compensation, ownership, etc., but that would have to be a one on one discussion between me and you.

So, if you have stuck this far, and feel like this is the project for you, shoot me a message, and let's get to talking!
My email is mdevillar@gmail.com so feel free to send examples of your work, or any other questions, comments, or what have you my way.
Thanks a bunch, and look forward to hearing from you all soon!

I read the first 2 pages of the script and i have to say that its pretty good. For me i found i can easily see in my mind what you are describing. The panels dont seem overcrowded with dialogue which almost every amatuer does, the dialogue seems real, meaning you can see someone actually saying it and not sounding weird. I was afraid when you said its a fantasy that you would get really cliche with the dialogue and have people talk like morons. So high five to you on getting it right. I think if you can get a decent artist your comic will go places and you can make money from it.

This is a very good post.

One thing to keep in mind, you imply you're looking for a manga style...that'll be tough for this site. This site brings to it mostly people with American style stuff, and although I wouldn't dissuade you from trying do steel yourself for the possibility that the best requests you'll get will be more realistic American. Try a few other sites just in case.

Best of luck,
Ruyei.
